Has FC Dallas created a women's team? http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/soccer/post/_/id/11483/has-fc-dallas-created-a-womens-team Just got it confirmed from WPSL, indeed they have. logo on WPSL site and all. http://www.wpsl.info/
Yes; maybe now a few former Aggie Soccer players will have a place to play....... I'd come out and watch them
I wonder how similar their jersey design will be to the men's team. Is if safe to assume they will be red & white stripes and red shorts at home? side note: one opponent is named Salt Lake City Sparta. Does that city have a single sports team name that isn't laughable? Even when it would appear the collegiate team of Utah Utes makes sense, I still laugh and envision this scene: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpNgONH2ncI"]YouTube - 2 Yutes[/ame]
Buzz, Any indication as to why a women's team was formed? Brand exposure? Profitability? I'm surprised by this move as the ceiling on women's professional soccer seems extremely low.
Well, one thing you have to remember is that the WPSL is not professional. The "P" stands for "Premier" and they claim to be the highest level of amateur soccer for women in the USA.
Gotcha - I assumed the "p" stood for professional and I was concerned that the team would take resources from the Men's FC Dallas team.
Funny - Ives got it wrong too. http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...tern-conference-landon-donovan-fc-dallas.html
Also, this week FC Dallas announced that it will be creating a woman's team that will play in the WPSL (Women's Pro Soccer League) and be run under the Dallas Youth system.
haven't heard anything specific. It sounds like FCD's team will be mostly a women's PDL equiv... college kids maybe a few over that.
I think people are underestimating the symbolic importance of this move. It's not that it's going to be bringing in spectators or money. It's not that it's some great investment in women's soccer (frankly, if they make the amateur election from the choice that WPSL teams seem to have to make, it's anything but). What it is is more evidence that FCD is taking itself seriously as a club. There is now a path from U7 to senior for both boys/men and girls/women. In another year or so, the club might be able to legitimately say (unfortunately in the case of the women's team) that their two top teams are playing at the highest domestic club level. I don't want to make too much of it, because I think FCD-W (or whatever they may call it) is going to be a pretty modest endeavor, but it is another sign that this FO finally "gets" it.
Just a quick followup on this. Very glad to hear the excitement - we're pretty excited about it too, for a lot of the same reasons. The team won their first road game - 4-1. The first home game is tomorrow (had to play one mid-week home game....) and would love to have your support. A season pass is very affordable ($30) for a six game season. You can call me for details - 469 365 0048 - or email me as well - klindstrom@fcdallas.net.
The team’s home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. FC Dallas WPSL will play a total of six home games at the 600-seat Dr. Pink Field at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. http://www.fcdallasyouth.com/FC-Dallas-WPSL-tickets-now-available-.aspx
