1999 (but pre-MLS Cup '99) good. It was just an incredible game all the way around, but Hartman was definitely the difference.
Two or three very strong reflex saves - Kevin's strong suit. He stopped the PK - a combination of good reflexes and lucky guess. I am never quite sure how much credit goes to the keeper on that kind of stop. On the other hand, he got bailed out by a defender on one (admittedly strong) shot where he did not controll the ball after the stop, and SJ missed a couple of shots where KH was arguably beaten. He played a VERY STRONG MLS game but I am not quite ready to move him ahead of Tim Howard on the USMNT depth chart. It is clear that he is finally back from his injured wrist and playing to form. He probably merits a look see in USMNT camp, but US is so strong at that position that he might not see more caps.
hehe..I think this line right here brings up a good arguement. Which would you rather be? Europe good or US National Team good? You can find examples of both. Like how Steve Cherundolo is good enough for Europe but not the US. Or players like Claudio and John O'Brien who star for their respective European teams. About the original thread. I actually don't know much abvout Hartman and he never got that much publicity here on BigSoccer where where if you have 1 good half and people rave about you. How old is he?
Its nice to see Hartman coming back into form. He was turning into a real good keeper a few seasons ago, and then I think he got injured and things kind of fell apart for him. Ironically, his opposite number on Saturday, Joe Cannon played stellar most of the season. In fact I was rating him as the number two keeper in MLS after Tim Howard. Not sure now, but Cannon is still class. Howard is unreal however.
Re: Re: Hartman unreal He is 28 (5-24-74) so he definitely has the time, but starting for USA at GK is, in my opinion, just as tough as finding a starting job (on average, any position) on a team like Spain or England. He'd probably have to go to Europe to have any shot of it. All you need to do is go to mlsnet.com and click on rosters for player's ages.
