Well JK Rowling said on her official site that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the title of HP #6. She goes on to say that: The Mr. or Ms. Storgé comment refers to a false rumor started by somebody claiming to have hacked her site and found out that the next title was HP and the Pillar of Storge. As a huge fan of these books I am rather excited about this, however ti would probably be another 9 to 12 months until the book is released. Book 5 was given 5 months from the announcement of its release to its actual release, I assume the publishers would follow the same pattern we could see something next Spring or Summer. http://money.cnn.com/2004/06/29/news/newsmakers/harrypotter/index.htm?cnn=yes
So...part of the way through book 2 she knew that part of her story belonged in book six? [Ronald Weasley] Bloody 'ell[/Ronald Weasley]
So who do you guys think the title is referring to? Voldemorte/Tom Riddle was half-blood, right? That would explain the book 2 relatedness.
Actually, she's explicitly refuted the possibility of either Harry or Voldemort being the title character. Click on the newspaper on her official website (as these sites go, this one is actually kind of fun): www.jkrowling.com
It could be a completely new character. If it's an existing character, my guess is the title refers to Seamus Finnigan. He's one of the few half-bloods to be mentioned, and they made sure to include that seemingly unimportant line in the first movie ("I'm half and half. Dad's a muggle. Mam's a witch. Bit of a nasty shock when he found out.") Seamus has always been around, and saw more development than many of the background characters when he had the feud with Harry in Book 5.
I think the new title sounds great and its getting me quite excited. Possible people who could be the prince of the half-bloods are: Dean Thomus - his mother is a muggle and father a wizard, this info was supposed to be in book 2 but was left out, JK has said it on her site. Seamus Hagrid Dumbledore Mark Evans - this one is the most likely at the moment. Ron - "Weasly is our king, Weasly is are king". You might not think its him seeing as he isnt a half blood but he doesnt have to be, he can just be the prince of the half blood wizards and witches, doesnt technically have to be a half blood. I think it would be best if it was a new character or Mark Evans.
I also think that the Mark Evans character will play a role in the future, but the name on your list I'm most intrigued by is Hagrid. He is a half blood, and with the population of the Giants dwindling, along with the role they played in book 5, he could well be the half blood prince. He's also the one who had the line in Chamber of Secrets about there not being a wizard alive who's not half blood or less. Good thoughts there!
I was thinking about this too, but I'm not sure how that would correlate with book 2. I might have to re-read the Chamber of Secrets to look for clues.
It could also refer to Dean Thomas, whose story was cut from earlier books to make more room for Neville's...he had a father who was a wizard and was killed by the Death Eaters when he refused to join them. As for Hagrid, he is a "half-breed" not a half blood. Two other candidates are the Creevly (sp?) brothers, Colin and Dennis, whose father is a milkman. If I was to make a guess, it woudl probably be Mark Evans, because that name just sticks out like a sore thumb and the fact that he was 10 means that if he was magical, he would be starting at Hogwarts in the next book. Some people also believe that Voldemort and Tom Riddle are two seperate entities (a la Darth Vader and Anikan Skywalker in Star Wars) and since much of the Chamber of Secrets deals with Riddle, makes note of his half-blood status and what a brilliant student he was at his time in Hogwarts.
This is one of the coolest web sites ever. I spent a couple hours looking around, finding all the secrets, etc. Frickin' awesome.
One other thought, the prophecy in Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore and Harry, while talking about it say that it could have been 1 of 2 kids, either Harry or Neville. Neville isn't a half-blood, but this raised his importance in future books.
I tried to check it out once, and spent a couple hours waiting for it to load. I hate still being on dial-up. Another idea: Rowling has said that Viktor Krum will eventually be back, and we don't know a whole lot about his parentage.
Good catch...he is a possibility but as of right now there are only two people who we know it can't be and thats about it. However I gather from the statement made by Rowling when she released the title that more hints will be released on her website over time either as statments or hidden like the other things have been.
I've always figured that Harry would be chosen for the England World Cup quiddich team at the end of book 7. Of course they'll crash out after penalities.
In the first chapter, Harry and Dudly are talking and Harry says he saw him beating up Mark Evans and makes fun of him for beating up a 10 year old. The only reason this matters is because we learn later on that Lily's madien name was Evans and since nothing is ever a coincidence in the Harry Potter world, people think he will be in future books and could be related to Harry somehow.
I just checked the site and JK Rowling has stated that Mark Evans is...nobody. She explains it in the FAQ sections under the FAQ poll. Now can somebody please explain the point of the Scrapbook? Or at least how to get started on it. Thanks
The scrapbook... there are secret easter eggs around the site. Little puzzles. Figure them out, and you get a scrapbook page. Some pretty cool stuff. Early drawings... early drafts of HP scenes, etc. I think I solved everything now. For example... before she put the title of the new book on the main page... you had to solve a puzzle to get it.
That's a pretty cool site. I got four things for my scrapbook, how many more are there? Did anyone here have the phone on the desk ring for them?
I didn't... did you answer it? I had Peeves go buy and knock stuff down... at least I thought it was Peeves... looked like a big bug thing.
Peeves knocked down the flower vase and wrote "Peeves woz heer" on the mirror where the door is. He also knocked down the pen holder on the desk. When I answered the phone the first time nobody was there, the second time I hear a "Hello... hello"
