The thread may be quite premature, but here I go anyway:

As I'm looking at the design of the new stadium, I'm thinking that the best place for 101 to be located, would be at the far end (going by the pic), under the semicircular jetsons-like roof. I heard they may put up a stage there or something, but if they just make regular seats, I can't think of a better place.

That stand is a little differentiated from the rest of the stadium, and would make 101 stand out. Additionally, from the look of the pic, the players' benches would be to our right (under the hidden sideline on the pic). So, it would be just like GS (not that GS brings up great memories or anything).

Additionally, we should request that the section numbering starts off from our section with, what else, 101. We should try to make this happen regardless of where we sit.

Why does 101 always want to isolate themselves???

I dunno. We were usually louder when we were isolated.

How do you mean? I can't think of many places in the world where the biggest, loudest fans sit anywhere but in the ends.

I didn't mean to project desire to isolate ourselves (even if it does work to our benefit). It would be quite optimistic of us to think that we could fill the whole end. Not in the near future - that's for sure.

I just thought that the far end stands out from the rest of the stadium, as opposed to the near one. As such, it would be another differentiating trait.

Kinda like the Kop at Anfield - only much-much smaller (at least for now).

Will be better in the new stadium cause there wont be a million seats between u and rest of the peeps... Seems like it would be more effective if the ESC were intermingled.. But what do i know. Isnt the goal of 101, to add a little atmosphere and energy to a fairly lifeless crowed???

Soccer moms don't like 101. Anschutz keeps LARS, Galaxians et al away from the respectable customers at Victoria Street, and it's likely he'll do it here, too.

I say they make it terraces then put up a big, chicken wire fence between 101 and the goal. Cage us like the filthy animals we are.

Its one of the goals of the ESC but its not shared by the rest of the fans. We can try and mingle all we want but as long as Metro is catering to the soccer mom crowd, and they keep showing up, there is going to be conflict of interest. So instead of having to deal with security, soccer moms, MFO, we'de rather just be in our own section.

But traditionally Supporters sit behind the goal anyways so it doesnt matter.

The way its done in other places is the same way we do it. Not everyone around the stadium is part of the "barra" they just are more willing to participate. Like at the Wednesday game. The ends started the chants and the people on the other sections followed willingly. Thats the way it works. SOccer moms dont feel like they have to chant they more worried about changing diapers and having an even babysit their kids than Metro winning.

I also think MFO should contact ESC and fans like them when building the stadium. THey dont have to listen to us, but we can give them some opinions about building the section. For instance seating. It will be much better to build aluminum type benching like Crew Stadium for our section. It would not only be more confortable for us(ie we dont lose our knee caps), but cost effective for them, not only is it cheaper, but also less maintanace as individual plastic seating breaks often, in 101.

I also think there should be a seperate entrance for that section, kinda like the bleachers in Yankee stadium. That way its easier to control things like flags, drums and streamers, if they dont want other sections to have them. I think we can all come up with ideas for that will benefit both sides and we can build not only something that will look good but that will actually fit the fans/team well. I mean if youre going to do it might as well do it right.

These are actually some really good suggestions. Let's hope MFO reading the boards today instead of playing solitaire on their PCs.

hummmmmmmmmmm i can see some of these points.... The bottom line is that fans dont make noise sitting by themselves. Some real fans over here, some real fans overthere, seperated by a sea of mostly haggard soccer moms and kids leaves the stadium juiceless. Will be a bit better in the new stadium but still more milk and cookies than a real soccer atmosphere. There isnt a ton of metro fans, they should sit mostly together. Its part of the reason people go to see sports live and the biggest reason the people i bring dont become more than passive fans.. I think Chivas will show MLS the way...

Its not like youre going to brand yourself. That Metal doesnt get too hot. We used to have them at my high school, and we we used to sit/stand on them all the time in the old foxboro, I dont think anyone complained.

metrocorazon, you're right. I forgot my chemistry, aluminum doesn't retain alot of heat. Also, you can get a good loud sound on them like we did on the field in Rutgers.
    Back on topic here..,

If you don't want to sit with the soccer moms and want to cheer in a section other than 101, then start another supporters club. There's always room for more. Other MLS teams work well with more than one club. One club may offer midfield seats, while the other may have cheaper yearly dues. A few people from Fordham have started a John Wolyniec fan club (http://www.wolysworld.com) and they had a great turn out just a few weeks ago.

You know, the Woly crew reminds me just a bit of the situation in Italy, where some teams have multiple supporters club that derive their name from (and lend their most passionate support to) a certain player (usually someone who, for one reason or another, attains a sort of iconic status and/or has some other major significance. From what I've seen, it seems like they even keep things going when 'their' player is gone. We could use some of that kind of passion; Woly won't be on this team forever, but hopefully a few of those Woly guys can keep doing what they're doing, not just for a few weeks or a season but for a good long time.

Just pour water on the aluminum, that way your a$$ won't broil. Poach, maybe...

    Besides, nobody sits in 101.

*** Creating a speacial supports club wast really what i was going after actually.. Perhaps you guys just like the atmosphere the way it is. A little club behind the net off to yourselves.. Thats cool, depending on who i am with, i sit overthere often.. Its fun.. Too bad though, your enthusiasm potentially could be contagious.. Most sports fans i know (and i bring about 10 new people over the course of each season) want to show up, watch the game, make a little noise and enjoy.. Not necessarily have to become apart of a special group to do so.. Perhaps someday, we'll see....

I already suggested the terraces but I think we can reserve the chicken wire for games where NYRMetros and his firnm show up.

You dont have to become part of a special club. You are the one asking why we dont spread out. He's telling you that instead of waiting for us to spread out create your own section/club or "non club" and get people to sign in whatever section you wanna be in. Join into our chants or start some of your own. I dont undertand what you are trying to say really, you arent making much sense.

Besides anyone can walk over to 101, you dont have to be in the ESC.

I can't believe you guys in ESC miss 2 important points about the new stadium. First of all, if that area is a stage, then guess who is getting the boot on hispanic heritage night(s) so the flamenco band can already be set up? You'll be forced to sit elsewhere and bore us to death about the injustice of it all. And second, because of the area it's in, there will probably be more hard core "soccer" fans attending. That means hopefully the soccer mom crowd will be too afraid to show up anymore.

Youre right, god knows where theyll stick the ESC. It's too bad the Metros doesnt care about its core fan base to even ask for their suggestions. I mean once the stadium opens it isnt going to be just ESC in the supporters end. That whole end is going to be(hopefully) opened so that anyone can come in, just like it should be.

Also let me say that Im just using the ESC as an example of a group of fans they should get feedback from. I dont want you to think that Im calling for the Metros to kiss the ESC's ass. They just happen to be the only known group of fans(besides the Woly boys). One would think that that type of support will expand in the new stadium and they should build to accomodate that, and really there is no other place to ask for direction than your own supporters club.

An excellent thread. I hope MFO reads & considers this.
The metal bleachers create a different atmosphere for the ESC than seats. Since we don't sit, a tiered bleacher structure is all that is needed, without creating terraces, which could & have created a crush problem. I don't know that we need a separate entrance; frankly anyone that's willing to stand & sing should be welcome, even if it's a flamenco band!
