Did anyone hear Harkes say that San Diego got the approval to use Qualcome stadium for MLS next season? He said it on this weekends (last weekend) MLS highlight show on fox sports world. He also said it was now up to the MLS board of governors to approve the team in SD for 2004.
If those jack offs steal the number one pick in the draft, we may have found a team to dislike almost as much as goon.
Yeah. And then a new group of fans will start complaining about football lines during next September.
Just so we are clear on this: The Padres are moving to a new stadium, right? BUT, when the Chargers show up next season, the dreaded pointy ball lines reappear? Mmmmmm. Could the new San Diego team play their games at Home Depot until they get their own stadium?
Re: Re: Re: harkes says that san diego qualcomm stadium is go (Speak out loud in a Foghorn Leghorn style) It's a joke, son, a joke. You know, ha ha ha, funny stuff, a joke son, a joke.
Re: Re: Re: Re: harkes says that san diego qualcomm stadium is go Best of luck with the standup career, Foghorn.
if qualcomm is used for a yet announced san diego club, hopefully mls will be able to get a decent leasing agreement since bad ones (e.g. giants stadium) hurt profitability.
smaller stadiums? USD's Torero (sp?) Stadium, home of the defunct San Diego Spirit has a capacity of 7,000 but looks like there's seating on just three of the four sides. Could the capacity be increased to 10,000 or more? How about playing at another smaller stadium in town? Does UCSD have a stadium? Any other smaller stadiums around? I wish the city called the Chargers' bluff and forced the Chargers to go somewhere else. How nice would it be for Chivas de SD to knock down Qualcomm and build a smaller stadium on top of the old one?! The Q is in a great location! Just too big for MLS.
i believer torrero stadium is ucsd's stadium seeing that they are the torredors. sdsu uses the Q for their terribly *#*#*#*#*#*# pointball team and the soccer tem has a small 2500 seat capacity stadium with track on top of the parking structure i lived across from. the only vaible stadium is the q unless torrero stadium can be expanded and not end up like a dallas situations.
Re: smaller stadiums? Well the Chivas owner boasted that his MLS team will fill the stadium. Me thinks he dreams too much.
Reading for comprehension is taught in the 1st grade, even on the east coast. Go ask Mommy for a cookie.
We've gone through a list of stadiums in SD and you can check out the 500 or so posts in the MLS Expansion Board. Really the only place viable for the MLS in SD is Qualcomm. The other stadiums are too small, don't allow alcohol, have no parking, and/or are in residential neighborhoods. I think some can be converted, but not in 6 months. The Q will look empty for soccer games, but if the team is marketed right, I think the Chivas can average at least 15k for the season and over 20k for summer nights. I think the Padres getting a new stadium and having a decent team next season will hurt the chances of the chivas to succeed. Also who will locally broadcast chivas games? They will not be on Channel 4 because they will be competing with the Pads.
http://www.toreros-mexicanfood.com/ I think I found the perfect name for the new team: San Diego Family Cantinas - Paul
