Yeah Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the States and all Americans living abroad and of course Happy Birthday to Clint!
Guess they celebrate it somehow (soccer players with healthier food though propably). Us non-Americans(@ least germans) just don't celebrate it ;-)
The exact same thing we would do if we were in the states for thanksgiving. Turkey should be done in about 2 hours from now. Got the punkin' pie all done and all that fun stuff too.
i went a little native today, but gorged nonetheless - i had stampoot (mashed potatos with ham and green beans mixed in) and hazelnut vla (basically like pudding)
We(at my house) always say what we're thankful for, so: Ill have to say I'm thankful for the state of American soccer, especially the USMNT, and how every year, it keeps getting better.
well if we get to talk about other sports, im thankful that Boston sports(even if the celtics suck right now) teams and CFC are where they are
I'm envious of those Americans overseas who were able to get their fix for turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and the whole lot. Due to work-related commitments, I was unable to do the cooking this year, as I had done the last couple of years since I've been in Australia. (And my wife didn't have time, either, due to her work commitments as well. And that's a shame, because she has learned, due to the American Thanksgiving holiday, how to bake a pumpkin pie from scratch, and she has gotten really good at it.) And to add to our misery, I rang around to a great deal of restaurants, hotels and pubs in and around Melbourne in the hopes that they'd cater to the American ex-pats living in the city and environs. Sadly, none of them were. So for the first time in my living memory, I went without the turkey dinner on Thanksgiving that I am used to having... through no fault of effort on my part, mind you. But this story still has somewhat of a happy ending. When my wife and I went out to dinner at a local pub last night, in addition to the main meals we ordered, she said I could have anything I want to drink. So I figured in lieu of the turkey and cranberry, I'd order from the bar two drinks for myself: Premixer of Wild Turkey bourbon and coke and, a premixer of a Cosmopolitan martini, hence the cranberry Guess I'm always left to my wits.
Very much agreed. I'd have to say we're pretty spoiled right now, with the depth and class of Americans playing overseas getting better and better-- and that's in addition to that of MLS reaching greater proportions, and the USMNT reaping all the benefits and rewards from it.
And the Golden Bears from Cal are likely going to join them there... and going to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1959.
I had some chicken at Nandos (a Portuguese chicken chain). On Sunday we are having "thanksgiving" and trying to convert some heathens (i.e. show some English people the joys of eating too much turkey).
