FIFA.com twitter : There is a nice article about him from Juventiknows (by Aaron Giambattista | September 2, 2009) http://juventiknows.com/cinquanta-stelle-gaetano-scirea/
From Wiki ..... Scirea is one of only five players in European football history to have won all international trophies for football clubs recognized by UEFA and FIFA. Scirea is also one of only nine players in the history of the European football that won all three major UEFA football competitions. He played for the Italian national team for more than a decade during which he was irreplaceable as the leading defender, keeping Franco Baresi out of the national team for four years until he retired in 1986. Scirea became a World Champion with the 1982 FIFA World Cup winning team, which defeated Brazil 3–2 in a brilliantly played quarter-final match, and dominated Germany 3–1 in the final. Scirea was a graceful defender of great skill and tactical ability. In contrast to the ruthless tactics often employed by other defenders, most notably his paired partner, Claudio Gentile, Scirea was renowned for his class, fair play and sportsmanship. Scirea never earned a red card in his career. He played the sweeper, or libero, role for most of his career, and contributed to the development of this position initiated by Franz Beckenbauer in the 1970s. Thus, Scirea would detach himself from the defensive line and contribute to the attacking potential of his team, frequently being involved in the build-up of goals, and sometimes even scoring himself. In the latter part of his career, Scirea played a more defensive central-defender role, which he excelled at just the same.

23 years without Scirea September 3, 2012 Today Juventus fans across the globe pay tribute to a legend. The death of Gaetano Scirea, 23 years ago to this day, moved the entire football world. Scirea was a leader, a champion and a classy individual. His dedication to the Juventus cause knew no bounds. The 36-year-old tragically lost his life in a car accident whilst on a routine scouting trip to Poland in 1989. His death deprived the club and Italian football of a hero. Scirea won all four major European trophies during his 14 years in Turin. But it also deprived the world of a remarkably humble gentleman, much loved and respected by the fans.
Today is the anniversary of the death of one of the greatest to ever wear the bianconero shirt. A true champion and gentleman. Ricorderemo sempre Gaetano.
03.09.2016 07.00 - in: Events Gaetano Scirea tribute Gaetano Scirea passed away 27 years ago today. Juventus.com pays tribute to a man adored by Bianconeri fans and football lovers across the globe Some days stick out more than others in the memories of sports fans. On the one hand, you remember the moments of great victories and wonderful celebrations. Unfortunately, on the other, you also get days when you feel like you've lost someone close to you. A feeling that can persist even 27 years later. Bianconeri fans everywhere will recognise this when they recall the untimely death of Gaetano Scirea on 3 September 1989. Almost three decades have passed but the feeling of profound loss hasn't gone away - as if the tragedy occurred just a month ago. We all remember that Sunday in September well. Too well, in fact. Scirea had been sent on a scouting mission to Poland to watch Juventus' next opponent in the UEFA Cup, Gornik Zabrze. Sadly the heavy rain that day caused an accident on the roads that cost Gaetano's life. Italian football lost a World Cup winner and the sport as a whole one of its finest representatives, but most importantly we all lost a great man. A footballer with infinite class who was strong and kind at the same time, Scirea almost naturally took on the mantle of fair play and the healthy sporting values. We all lost something that day, Gai, but one thing is for certain: the Bianconeri world, united in grief today with wife Mariella and son Riccardo, has not forgotten you and never will. @scirea6
Honestly, I prefer to remember his birthday, rather than the day of his passing. It's just too horrible. He was 36 years-old. A young man, really; a wonderful one, at that. Leaving behind a widow and an 11 year-old son; devastating, on a human level, and it renders anything football-related irrelevant.
What a player. To me this was the best Juve jersey of all time. You can buy it here; http://www.toffs.com/juventus-1984-1985-ariston-home-retro-football-shirt
Never truly recognized for what a great player he was. He played against the best and showed them. 3️⃣2️⃣ career goals with an incredible four braces, not bad for a defender! 🙌⚪️⚫️#GaetanoScirea | The exhibition at #JuventusMuseum will be inaugurated on 3rd September. Not sure about yellows although I don't recall seeing any but I know Scirea was never red carded. I doubt that would happen today with card happy refs and VAR....
As I posted earlier, if the Club had any sense they would "reissue" that jersey tomorrow. They would sell a ton of them immediately.
One of the greatest & my favorite ... #Juventus hero Gaetano Scirea, the classy World Cup winner who picked up seven Scudetti with the Bianconeri, would have turned 67 today.https://t.co/GNwVzKMIg7#Azzurri pic.twitter.com/lmWwMLIX7a— Football Italia (@footballitalia) May 25, 2020
