My first reaction was: "It's a bit too late. It already happened 5 weeks ago". But I guess, this post was NOT for me
so kinda off subject, but you know how at games they have those people that walk around from US Army, looking for people to sign their sheet to get info, and they give ua shirt, or wutever? Well, I feel bad for them, and even though I will never join the army, I always sign the papers, but with bogus addresses. The first or second game of the season, I put Alexi's name on the sheet. I totally had forgotten about it until I read this thread. I used the Quakes front office addy and everything. I put african american for ethnicity, too. Man, it was funny.
Sorry to interrupt the Alexi-bashing, but I have nothing bad to say about the guy. Our team would be in much worse shape if there weren't guys like him who were willing to throw themselves into such a risky and unpredictable position as GM of a failing franchise of an unpopular sport. You guys have every right to criticize him and call him names if that's what you want to do, but he hasn't given me any reason to do so. In fact, he's already shown more effort at reaching out to San Francisco-based fans like myself than Johnny Moore ever did. Plus Alexi hasn't shown himself to be a quitter, yet Mr. Moore left the team hanging in the breeze days before the Superdraft, and in the midst of the busy-season for selling season ticket plans. Wow, what comitment. Anyway, even if you feel that Lalas has rubbed you the wrong way, or he's not committed enough to the Earthquakes as an organization, or he's some sort of shill for AEG brass or whatever, I still don't see how it's helpful for the future of the organization for there to be so much public Lalas-bashing. You don't see Fire fans bashing Peter Wilt for crappy attendance numbers. Alexi came on BigSoccer and made an attempt to reach out to the hardcore fans, but it wouldn't surprise me if he never comes back after the rude reception he got. Would you be happier if he left and we had no GM? Who would we be able to get to replace him? How would that improve our chances of increasing attendance and/or getting public financing for a stadium? Disagree with me all you want, but I just don't see the point of all the pouting. -Bandwagon official member of the Alexi Lalas apologist club
Galexi sure bought you cheap didn't he? You swallowed his hook all the way to the gills, what a sheep. The stuffed suit AEG threw at us to keep us quiet may be enough for you but those of us who think for ourselves know better.
lighten up beerking... you keep bitching and moaning about the "man" and AEG and how they are screwing u.... listen, at least you got a team... what are you going to bitch about when the quakes move out??? im sure you will find something, but it wont be the quakes, cause they will be in a city that appreciates them... get on with it, support your team.... being the "anti-establishment" guy was cool in HS...
Re: lighten up beerking... Wow, such hostility. Do I read some envy in your post? What better things does a lonely hack from MI have then to troll on Quakes' boards? Find somewhere else to drop your useless and uniformed opinions. Go Quakes!
No matter what you think about someone this kind of gesture is uncalled for. It's immature, stupid, and disrespectful.
Yeah, because obviously the only informed opinion around here is that Alexi sucks. Certainly is. It's funny how people who have no control of a situation assume they should've been consulted or something prior to hiring a new GM. Alexi's just a mook doing a job, and trying to do it to the best of his ability. As much as I like Johnny, there's no reason to assume the team would somehow be "better off" if Alexi wasn't GM. I kind of respect him for jumping into this briar patch -- most potential GMs would be scared off, knowing they'll assume the brunt of the blame if/when the team moves and/or merges with CA.
