Because he'll spend more time injured than playing and will have time for other duties?

My tequila supply is still running strong, so if by "giddy" you mean "drunk with joy" then yep, count me in.

Here is the quote from Councebert when Mooch was sacked:

The Colorado Rapids would like to thank Glenn Myernick for his
service to the club," said General Manager Dan Counce. "However, we felt
that it was time for a coaching change. In today's sports market you have
    to sell exciting, entertaining soccer
and we felt that this decision is in
keeping with that goal. Glenn is a good coach and a great friend and
I have no doubt that he will find another team and continue his fine coaching
    career."

Yeah, Hanki definitely brought THAT to Denver

"However, we are a team that needs to be a contender
for the Cup every year while playing exciting soccer
    ,”
added Wright. “We need to establish a winning tradition worthy of our
passionate Rapids fans, especially as the time nears for us to move into
our new soccer-specific stadium in Commerce City in 2007.”

Will they be able truely to deliver upon this repeated promise? Granted, we have only had 3 coaches in 8 years IIRC, so there is not much room for interpretation.

Tim has demonstrated leadership qualities to the highest degree to
go along with his wealth of experience.

This part really made me laugh rather loudly. Counce to Wright "Yeah, leadership qualities / wealth of experience, yeah that's it, put that in the press release! That'll really get them on the floor!" :D

Any change at this point is VERY WELCOME and starting with the coach is a great start. I would guess that Counce will survive, but I beg that if the new coach sucks and the Rapids lose the majority of the first half of their games next season Counce (and the sucky coach) get the ax.

I would pass on Tritt for now. I like the guy, and I know a lot of Rapids fans have fond views of the guy, but I wonder to what extent he has been tainted under the Hank.

Actually we had 4 coaches ... Alan Pearce actually got this correct in his Post article ... we always forget that Houghton quit the team and Wegerle stepped in for a game or two.

Anyway, Hanki just didn't understand how to get a team to play offensively without Carlos in the lineup.

I sure hope the right decision is made here ... I'm just all goofy happy with the prospects!!! Can you imagine if we turned into a team that other MLS fans actually acknowlege?? If we are actually called apon to be one of the top contenders!!!

Oh Happy days. Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Except that I don't think Wegs was ever really named "head coach." Just being in charge of the team as an interim coach doesn't mean you've been offered nor named to the position.

Actually Hanki was quite good at getting his team to play offensively.

He just couldn't get them to play offense.

I can imagine that it's because there's again hope. It's now possible for the Rapids to play well and win a Cup!

I'm already feeling the excited expectation of next season. We'll be able to start the year off thinking of positives and a new coach. Wondering if he'll be the one to bring the Rapids to glory. I'm sure we'll get about six games into the season and have something to b!t*h about but for now I am all giddy.

When you submit your roster ... isn't there a space for who is "coach" of the team? Maybe he wasn't name coach .. but he was effectively the coach.

That doesn't mean he won't do it. The Rapids have in fact already contacted Sigi. He basically told them it would cost them. I guess we'll see if the Rapids are willing to shell out top $ or not. I believe Hanki was the lowest paid coach in the league.

I believe Hanki was making between $110k - $125k. I think he was closer to mid-range. I can't verify the numbers, this is what I was told by one of his (ex)players.

I'm not sure I'm supposed to say, but I assure you it's true. The Rapids had Balboa approach Sigi. I'm not sure what the connection between those two is, if any. Balboa was a so cal boy, but was at SDSU, not UCLA.

You may very well be right. I was told once he made the lowest salary of all MLS coaches, but I can't remember where or from whom, so it's not like my information was great or anything.
