In that stadium, the shadows cast by the cables that hold up that scoreboard make it very, very difficult to watch a game in bright sunlight. No thanks.

honestly, that seems A BIT extravagant. and really, extravagance is not something the Germans are known for. which is surprising it's there at Commerzbank Arena .. or whatever the hell that is called.

i would not waste money by installing a hanging videoboard like that. if they ever wanted to expand RBP from 30k seats to whatever ... it would probably be a huge pain in the arse.

That setup in Germany with the hanging scoreboard also has that portable umbrella cover. Keeps the rain out as well as the humidity. The scoreboard is below the umbrella box and they also have that setup in a Tennis stadium, but there isn't a scoreboard in the middle. The umbrella is bunched up in the middle and when the threat of rain starts it opens up to cover the court. I think it's a clay court.

I remember watching the England v. Paraguay match during the World Cup last summer, which was held at Commerzbank Arena. One of the goal kicks by England keeper Robinson hit that awful hanging scoreboard and bounced right back at him at full velocity. No thanks. Plus it reminds me of something you'd see at a hockey or basketball game.

And the shadows are horrendous >

I wouldn't want the scoreboard up there like that, but I'd love if we had the lines up there to do the umbrella thing. Be good for rain games (though I seem to remember watching a match with one of those, maybe a CL match a couple of years ago, where the stadium had one, but it had a hole in it and water just poured through it like a waterfall), but more so to provide some shade for day games in the middle of summer. Something to provide a little relief for the players on the field so they don't run out of gas on those really hot days.
