I hope so too, but Israel has already announced that it will begin restricting aid tomorrow.

This is where I hope Trump can apply equal amount of leverage and persuasion to pressure Bibi to not do this. What WILL happen is Trump will side with Bibi with regards to dead body return "clause" in the ceasefire agreement, and blame Hamas. Which is again, even if 100% accurate, will just result in a lose/lose scenario for both sides.

    Well,
I've been told that Infantino was at the Gaza peace talks in Egypt with a by Trvmp initiated wild card for Israel at the WC2026, for signing an end to the war.

  4. I'm hearing reports the last (2?) bodies are very hard to recover, being covered by meters of debris as a result of Israeli bombing.
Might be hamas is lying about it, but to what end?

I'm more worried that one of the "dead" is not actually dead.

  6. If one of them still is alive, that's a good thing to me. I presume hamas has reported them as probably dead, given where they were held is a large rubble mountain?

I meant more that Hamas didn't want to lose their main leverage, so while the dead are also super important to Israel, they are keeping some alive and whose body "can't" be found. I obviously don't have any proof of any of this, but this whole conflict makes me very pessimistic.

Perhaps, but the provisions for the returns of the remains of deceased hostages seem rather unambiguous, and it's not at all clear that Hamas hasn't returned the remains of hostages in its possession (as opposed those not in Hamas's possession).

This looks like bad faith on Israel's part.

Hamas will first have to make sure all Palestinians understand they still hold the power.

  10. How are they supposed to have leverage by keeping secret they're alive?
You havenot got an advantage by having someone alive, while reporting he'/she's dead.
You only have (false) leverage by suggesting someone, who's been killed under the rubble to be alive.
The opposite you suggest makes no sense at all.

Perhaps, but until the dead are counted, I can only assume the worst will be presumed. Plus the entire current deal is still so fragile, any hint of uncertainty can blow the whole thing up.

Seems that if Hamas didn't have the bodies, they should not have agreed to return them? They did sign the agreement and they got their prisoners back.

The lack of good faith and the infighting in Gaza don't portend peace.

Bibi was in court again to testify for his corruption trial. Probably better to be locked up in Israel than to face this. Hamas leadership deserves the same.

    Why?

The right to self-defense for a group when they are being repeatedly denied their rights is a core principle in international law.

Palestinians have been living in a state of Apartheid. They get held indefinitely without trial or crime. Movement of goods prior to 10.7 was highly restricted by the Israeli government. Israel certainly isn't a Democracy in the sense that Palestinians do not receive equal rights under the law.

Why do they deserve the same treatment as their oppressors?

Because attacks on non-combatants are a war crime. The IDF, Israel's civilian leadership involved in prosecuting the war, Hamas's military leadership, and Hamas's fighters all should be tried for war crimes.

  19. There's a difference between fighting an oppressor and willy nilly murdering unarmed civilans.
Nobody can make a war crime/crime against humanity case against any hamas member, when it's about attacking military.
The non IDF victims of the 7th of 10th massacre are person by person a case for a crime against humanity charge against the combattants involved and the ones plotting it.

Yes. This said, today's terrorists are tomorrow's valid interlocutors, with whom one must negotiate, and who must therefore be removed from their status as criminals. It's a classic phenomenon, even if it's not pleasant.
I'm not saying it will happen in that case, nor that it's desirable. Just that it's not something unusual in former cases of liberation wars.
