So it appears rn the hostages will finally be released and Israeli military activity in Gaza will also end. All subject to change, of course. President Donald Trump's announcement that Israel and Hamas have agreed the first phase of a ceasefire deal was widely welcomed Thursday by world leaders, the families of hostages and Palestinians who have endured more than two years of war. But huge questions remain about whether Trump's 20-point plan can successfully resolve the long-term future of the Gaza Strip, with uncertainty over its directive for Hamas to disband as well as the governance of the shattered enclave. The plan, which was mediated by Qatar, Turkey and Egypt, will also need formal agreement at 5 p.m. local time Thursday (10 a.m. ET) by Israel's government, an Israel official briefed on the matter told NBC News. That does not appear a sure thing, with Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich vowing to vote against it. https://www.nbcnews.com/world/israe...palestinians-trump-netanyahu-qatar-rcna217806
The Israeli Cabinet still has to agree to the deal and that pos Smotrich already said he will not vote on it, but hopefully his vote is meaningless and I'd expect the Cabinet to approve sometime today or tomorrow.
Their voices, as well as Ben Gvir’s, don’t matter because there’s already a majority in favor of the deal. The most they can do is threaten to dissolve the government, but everyone in Israel knows that won’t happen, especially Smotrich, since doing so would erase him politically. It would also have many other consequences for their future, such as the establishment of a state commission of inquiry and the acceleration of Netanyahu’s legal cases.
Its not "say" it's what going to happen, part of the deal. A terrorist organization isn't allowed to run anything. And for the question "who" it will be build by International force from Arab countries and France saud they will send soliders.
$10000000000000 question. 1. At this point, we don't know if Hamas has agreed to completely leave the scene. In fact, I would bet they will now want to think of themselves a la Hezbollah. The real government behind the puppet. 2. Qatar seems to be the main protagonist in leading the charge in the formation of the new "leader." I've no idea how and what that looks like.
It's not just filling the leadership void in Gaza, it's undoing 20 years of programming that led residents to believe their primary raison d'etre was to murder their neighbors.
I called it! The Amazing Jared got it done. Get ready for the Nobel. Years later, Kushner became deeply involved in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas. He emerged, former Israeli officials said, because he carries important influence with regional governments and the president. “Kushner was the architect,” a former Israeli official said. Kushner was able to convey to Trump that the conflict in Gaza threatened the future of his biggest diplomatic success the last time he was in office — the Abraham Accords. That deal produced peace agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco. Trump has aimed to extend it to normalize relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/israel-hamas-ceasefire-deal-came-together-rcna236789
I thought I'd read that the PA was expected to play some role, but that may have just been the PA itself jockeying for leverage. I don't know.
The first major documented conflict between Muslims and Jews was the Battle of Khaybar in 628 CE. I'm glad everything is settled now!
Want to? Maybe. Will they, I doubt it. Abbas is widely disliked by majority of Palestinians. He's basically a tiny dictator in a tiny piece of land. He's been around about the same number of years as Bibi, which means it's been way too long for both of them to be anywhere near power. I sincerely hope Palestinians get a new leader (ideally through honest and fear-free elections) and that they can first and foremost, deal directly with Israel. It's nice that some ME countries (Egypt, UAE, Qatar, Saudis) and Turkey want to play a role and maybe for now, that's how the process starts, but eventually, the two people will need to deal directly with each other, without involvement of other parties.
Good job to all those tens of millions of Dearborn Michigan Arab voters who voted in peacemaker Trump to get this thing over the line.
I would say bibi caused decades lasting irrepairable damage. Israelis hope that image of Israel changes with agreement: 'I felt the hatred towards me every day' Israelis are celebrating the agreement en masse. Finally, the hostages return home. Yet the relief partly stems from a completely different reason. In the past two years, the world has increasingly turned against Israelis, who have become more isolated. "I hope I don't have to defend myself anymore now that the war ends." This is idle hope.
