This guy is apparently an American citizen with, presumably, no criminal record. Not sure what could be done to prevent him from legally purchasing a firearm. In any event, he broke DC law by carrying a concealed weapon around the District.
Share your support for "more accepted among the median liberal". Meanwhile the right has a president that says "some very fine people".
No offense, but I don't feel like wasting my time reading in between the lines. My point to him is clear and he gets it.
it’s hard to believe neither you’ve been been keeping up, but there is a ton of anti-Christian and Christianity rhetoric that is spouted in the politics form. It’s not hard to figure out what I’m talking about. I could think off the top of my head a number of posters that spout that shit I could call them out, but I don’t think that would be fair to them since I really don’t post in this particular thread
Just take a look at what is going on at college campuses and classrooms. There will be very little condemnation of these killings, both in the classroom and in mainstream media. The median liberal has been radicalized into believing that anti-Semitic harassment and violence is justified. The protests over Israel's military operations in Gaza have given an opening for far left anti-Semitic terrorist sympathizers to co-opt the protests and radicalize average well-meaning protestors.
The guy he is responding to isn't actually Jewish. Or if he is, he lied elsewhere about being Catholic. In either case... I have to go wash my brain because I had to click on Show Ignored Content for this clarification.
I abhor violence. I can condemn the attacks of October 7th. They shouldn't have happened. Nobody should lose a father, a sister, etc in an attack like that. We as a species should evolve beyond such barbarity. The only way to end violence is to fight the source of violence. Violence happens in response to other violence. Sometimes it's proportional. Sometimes it isn't. I do pray for the loss of life of Sarah and Yaron. It's tragic. By all accounts they had a full life ahead of them. I haven't seen some of the posters who are calling what I said anti-semitic decry the pure terror that the Israeli government has been inflicting on the Palestinian people. That demonstrates that to me that they don't value the life of everyone equally. That they don't feel that the nearly 55,000 Palestinians that have lost their lives and the nearly 2,000 Israelis that have lost their lives since the beginning of this conflict are the same tragic loss of life. Yaron wasn't targeted because he was Jewish. He isn't Jewish. He was targeted because he worked for the Israeli embassy. He was targeted because of the actions of the Israeli government. The terrorist shouting Free Palestine pretty much directly confirms that. It is a greater leap in logic to say that he was targeted due to a hatred of Jewish people, many of whom oppose the Genocide than it is to say he was targeted because of his affiliation with Israel. One can oppose Israel without opposing Jewish people. One can oppose Israel without denying it's right to exist. In fact many of the Jewish (Ashkenazi Jews) people who were living in Palestine before Zionism took root have always opposed Zionism. My point is that there can be a difference and to suggest otherwise is steeped in propaganda that has been used to justify the ethnic cleansing that has been taking place for over a century. Americans called the Native Americans savages. Germans called the Jewish people vermin. And now the Israelis call the Palestinians animals. All of it is morally disgusting. I have posted before how the actions of Netanyahu's government would increase the amount of violence directed at Jewish people worldwide and this tragedy is proof positive. To the poster who called me an anti-semite you have confirmed what I said, because dropping more bombs on Gaza than all of WWII combined, breaking ceasefire deals, and showing genocidal intent has made me oppose the state of Israel and its goals moreso now than at any other point in my life. Your propaganda won't allow for this view, but I promise you I have no hate for Jewish people in my heart. You won't hear me spouting about global conspiracies. I have talked to Jewish friends of mine who grew up in the United States who feel like the way Israel was talked about growing up was more like a brainwashing than it was an education. The state of Israel historically violates international law, disrupts peace, and has engaged in a brutal Apartheid against the Palestinian people. Those actions are all incredibly violent. The only moral solution moving forward given the history between the two is a two state solution and an end to the illegal settlements. Unfortunately it looks like that won't be the result. And that will only create more violence. If you feel like the above makes me an Anti-Semite I don't know what to tell you. We have different ways of looking at the world. I'd recommend reading President Jimmy Carter's book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid.
I don't post about it because generally it's not in my interest to get into a debate about religion. So honestly I generally don't even pay attention to those posts although I've seen some. Maybe I am not in some of those threads. But what I am pointing out here is different though. It's a poster who is talking about anti-semitism only when it suits him. Just look at his response to my reply. Just brushed the rise in anti-semitic rhetoric on the right over the past few years as just normal. So it's hard for me to believe that it's about anti-semitism.
This murder hits close to home, as I grew up in Kansas City and lived in Prairie Village, where Sarah Milgrim is from. The KC Jewish community is small and closeknit. Seems that walking anywhere while Jewish can be dangerous. A family member, not wearing anything identifiably Jewish, was just accosted on a Los Angeles street with "free Palestine." He got the message. "Free Palestine" has become a euphemism for the most vile anti-Jewish hatred.
A totally moronic and idiotic post showing absolute disregard to what Jews in US experience. You should become a comedian.
I honestly dont see what is so controversial about the post made by @Sufjan Guzan. I didnt see him/her exactly justifying what happened to that Jewish couple. It is reasonable to say that the actions of the Israeli regime makes Jews less safe, in so far as the level of anger that is created as a result of the genocidal policies, coupled with the fact that some extremists are not able to separate the policies of the Israeli government with Jews or Isrseli civilians. It is obviously regrettable. But its trait that is in common with those racists Kahaanists that has swallowed the body politics of the Israeli state, which is evident after 19 months of genocide (openly declared througout all levels in government and institutions of the state) I wonder about the emotional reaction/outburts to his post. Why cant news of 29 Palestinian babies dying of STARVATION, not to mention the daily slaughter of almost 100 civilians per day, envoke the same sense of rage and injustice? Palestinian lives matter that little? Especially as it has occured after a ceasefire breach made by Israel, that never implemented stage 2 and 3, which they agreed to, that would have lead to less global anger AND a release of hostages?
Are you distinguishing between posts that outright mock Christianity as a religion versus those that mock people on the right who call themselves Christian yet don't seem to adhere to Christ's teachings but still want to impose their version of Christianity onto the political sphere? Surely you're smart enough not to conflate the two.
So in other words, it is reasonable to say that the actions of Gaza government, aka Hamas, make Palestinians less safe, in so far as the level of anger that is created as a result of the genocidal policies and actions of Hamas, coupled with the fact that all Hamas extremists are not able to separate the policies of the Israeli government with civilian Jews or Isrseli civilians. It is obviously regrettable. Yes?
I'm sorry but this is messed up. He's using the tragedy that is the assassination of 2 Israeli diplomats to frame the narrative that there's no dissociation between Hamas and Palestinians and they all nazis along with those advocating for a free Palestine. Makes sense to try and shift the momentum back to Israel since France, Canada & UK openly threatened sanctions over his butchery of Palestinians. BTW, Israel told Canadians officials that "they were overreacting" over our the diplomats being shot just because we summoned their ambassador for explanation. Like I said - evil
No. False. You are creating a false symmetry between Palestinians, which is an occupied besieged people (long before the events of October 7th), and Israel which is the occupier. Israel is Goliath. A military nuclear armed superpower, endlessly backed by the worlds superpower and other western government in diplomatic, econonomic and military terms. Palestinians, which may have not had Israeli soldiers on the ground in Gaza, but blocked by air, land and sea and controlled in every aspect (even as to how many calories were allowed per citizen per day). A concentration camp or open air prison, which has now metamorphosed into a death camp. We already know the story of the West Bank, which is an occupation in absolute terms. If you want to compare a privileged society that has made their state and existence at the expense of another people that are denied those same national rights (heck, now even denied the most basic human rights) you are free to do that, but the rest of us are not obliged to view the world through the same lens/bubble. Now, does this justify the murder of civilians? No, it is regrettable. So was the massacre of white Americans by Nat Turner in his rebellion against slavery. Every action has a reaction. This will continue to be the case, and violence will continue in an endless spiral, until the root problems are adressed.
I think you missed the point. It's always easy to say something is "regrettable, but..." when it comes to Israel or Jews. It's very easy to go around and taking the philosophical route of explaining the or rationalizing crime against those you perceive to be in the wrong. But when the shoe is on the other foot, the comparisons are often evolved into justifications for those aforementioned crimes. If you want to discuss how Gaza turned into an "open air prison" after Hamas came to power and began shelling Israeli civilians in the South, feel free to review a number of the old threads when this topic was discussed. All you did with your post is tried to rationalize first the murder of two innocent Jews in US, while explicitly avoiding the mention of 1200 killed by Hamas by quickly transitioning to the 50k number.
I dont believe I missed your point. I adressed it very bluntly. But by judging by your response, Im afraid you missed mine. For those that have read my posts in this forum during the course of the last 19 months (that includes yourself) I have a clear track record of not rejoicing over the murder of Jews or rationalizing it in the sense you are talking about.
Honestly I have come to the conclusion that this thread is probably a giant waste of everybodys time. Everyone is too emotionally or ideologically commited to be able to get the "other side" to see their side of the argument. Its not really a debate that is going on here. Perhaps occasionally an exchange of ideas, but most of the time its a shouting match between who is most morally right, with everyone posting various tweets to support their argument. So Im probably going to take a break from this thread for a while. Cheers.
I hope it's not because of me, because I do frankly think you're a good poster, even though I disagree with a lot of what you say. This is obviously a very passionate and heated topic and it's hard to take emotions out of it.
