PVV ministers support tougher stance against Israel
The PVV ministers support the letter from Minister Caspar Veldkamp (Foreign Affairs, NSC) in which he demands an investigation into violation of an EU treaty by Israel. "The cabinet endorsed it this morning," Prime Minister Dick Schoof said Friday after the Council of Ministers.

The minister sent EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas a letter this week in which he asks for an investigation into whether Israel is still complying with the conditions of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. According to him, Israel is violating the treaty by blockading Gaza, where no food, drink and electricity have been coming in for weeks.
PVV leader Geert Wilders in particular reacted angrily to the letter. The other coalition parties agreed.

Wilders had several confrontations with his own PVV ministers the last few weeks on policy issues, but they now just shrug their shoulders and continue doing what they do.
So the anti-Palestinians party supports the investigation demand.

The Israeli ambassador to the Netherlands, Modi Ephraim, says he is concerned and disappointed that the Netherlands wants to investigate Israeli cooperation with the European Union. The top diplomat warns of a historic mistake now that the Dutch government has asked the EU to take a closer look at the association agreement with Israel, he says on X.
Ephraim refers to an opinion piece by him in De Telegraaf. The request for an investigation is "in stark contrast to the Dutch commitment to Israel's right to self-defense and the fight against the terrorists of Hamas," he writes.
The Dutch government gives in to the "intimidation of anti-Israel activists who will be encouraged by this."

Foreign Minister Veldkamp believes that Israel is violating the cooperation agreement by blocking aid to civilians in the Palestinian Gaza Strip. According to him, he has already received a lot of support from the EU for his call to investigate whether Israel complies with the treaty in terms of human rights and democratic principles.

Ephraim says the action will harm the association agreement, of which the Netherlands was one of the architects. "I urge all friends of Israel in the Dutch government to reconsider promoting this initiative." The ambassador believes that the step is harmful to the role that the Netherlands can play 'to make a peaceful future a reality'. It could also damage the resilience of Israel, which is on the West's "front line against Islamic terror."

 

Because the request has been supported by other EU countries, this favourable treatment of Israel by the EU is in acute danger.

When you have Thomas Friedman of all people posting things like this in the New York Times it feels like an abrupt shift as far as US mainstream media goes.

Interested in seeing what Qatar might want for its donation and how that could affect US-Palestine-Israeli relations moving forward. Apparently Hamas are in the process of releasing the last remaining prisoner of war with joint US israeli citizenship that they hold, Edan Alexander, as part of the direct talks they are holding with the US. Hopefully this can lead to a viable positive outcome.
