"Not adequate" is an understatement, who in their right mind would trust Israel to investigate this? And how does the killing of young girls by IDF forces in the West Bank have anything to do with fighting Hamas? These are cowardly war crimes and should be treated as such.

Ayşenur Eygi’s family demand independent inquiry into West Bank death | West Bank | The Guardian

"...Given the circumstances of Ayşenur’s killing, an Israeli investigation is not adequate,” her family said.

On Saturday, AFP footage showed Eygi’s body, wrapped in a blue cloth, kept in a morgue next to the body of a teenage girl who was killed the previous day in a separate incident in the West Bank...

...Eygi’s family said she had always advocated for “an end to the violence against the people of Palestine"...

...Israeli settlements in the West Bank – where about 490,000 people live – are illegal under international law..."

I should add that my son's girlfriend (who we adore) is also Turkish-American. And, like Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, she too is sickened by the Israeli campaign of annihilation against the Palestinian people.

I'm hesitant to reach out to her on this. She may or may not be aware of this IDF atrocity and I don't want to upset her further. Her feelings on this are intense.

just to bring this full circle, the obvious answer was "check with my son" so, when a pic popped up today of him getting a sack in his first varsity game, 12 years ago, I sent that to him and checked in with him on this...he wasn't aware and wasn't sure if she was either...so no need for me to broach it at this point.

This ridiculous thing of asking Israel to investigate its own crimes needs to stop.
Whatever happened to the so called investigation of mass graves found in Gaza, that Israel was supposed to investigate? Or the 4 year old girl who was found dead in a car ridden with bullets, after having plead/scream for her life over the phone with her mom (I think)? Along with all other investigations.

They say these things, but in a week or two its all forgotten and there is no follow-up and therefore no accountability.

Blinken/Biden duo are spineless. The bear-hug approach they have taken to Bibi government has been detrimental not only US global standing and interests, but even damaging to Israeli interests. Sometimes a good friend means showing tough love and holding one accountable.

In the same vein and our resident British poster has been MIA, one British newspaper criticising another British media source.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...-guidelines-more-1500-times-israel-hamas-war/

BBC ‘breached guidelines 1,500 times’ over Israel-Hamas war

The BBC breached its own editorial guidelines more than 1,500 times during the height of the Israel-Hamas war, a damning report has found.

The report revealed a “deeply worrying pattern of bias” against Israel, according to its authors who analysed four months of the BBC’s output across television, radio, online news, podcasts and social media.

Seems like the only leverage they have is to send more weaponry, or not.

Not to do so would probably be political suicide for Democrats.

I guess. Over time this will probably change. Although not in the near term.

There has been a seachange in public opinion and perception of Israel-Palestine conflict, with the advent of alternative media.

I think down the line, with eroding power of AIPAC and other lobbies, the current position will be unsustainable.

I think Kamala Harris wants to take a much tougher stance against Israel but has to be mindful of the political winds.

  9. Seems former Shin Bet-topman Nadav Argaman has said on Israeli tv Bibi is lying about the importance of the corridor, because he knows the tunnels have been rendered unusable by Egypt already years ago..

    Quelle surprise:rolleyes:

Three Israelis shot dead at West Bank-Jordan crossing

Three Israeli men have been shot dead at a border point between Jordan and the occupied West Bank, Israeli officials say.

The gunman - identified by the Israeli military as Jordanian Maher Jazi - approached the Allenby Bridge crossing from the Jordanian side in a truck then got out and opened fire, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Security personnel "eliminated" the gunman and the IDF checked the truck over for signs of explosives, a statement said.

Jordan says it is investigating the incident, which happened in an Israeli-controlled area where Jordanian vehicles offload goods entering the West Bank. The border point has now been closed from both sides.

Israeli media reported the victims were named Yohanan Shchori, 61, Yuri Birnbaum, 65, and Adrian Marcelo Podzamczer, whose age was not given.

The three men were said to be guards working at the border crossing, but were not military or police.

A new opinion poll just dropped from Channel 22

If elections were held today, the results for the parties would be :
    • Likud - 22 (-10)
    • Gantz - 21 (+13)
    • Lapid - 15 (-9)
    • Liberman - 14 (+8)
    • Meretz/Labor - 11 (+7)
    • Shas - 10 (-1)
    • Torah Judaism - 8 (+1)
    • Ben-Gvir - 9 (+3)
    • Hadash - 5 (no change)
    • Raam - 5 (no change)
    • Smotrich - 0 (-7)
    • Others - 0
The Netanyahu coalition would have 49 seats, down 15 and the anti-Netanyahu bloc would have 66, with 5 Arab seats that will never support anyone

If Naftali Bennet forms a party and runs (which is what's expected), his party will get 20, tied with Likud and boosting the anti-Netanyahu bloc to 69.

However, just because Bennett opposes Netanyahu don't think he's any kind of moderate. He was in Likud and used to be Netanyahu's chief of staff and it's entirely possible that after that kind of shellacking, Likud's new leader would agree a bloc with him.

And, as usual, the ultra-orthodox (Shas and Torah Judaism) will talk to anyone and go with whoever preserves their state-within-a-state social welfare system the best.

Based on some polls I've seen (I think it was Channel 12), Bennet appears to be a slight favorite to win the next election (assuming he runs). But he really does hate Netanyahu and while (as you said), them forming a block is not out of realm of possibility, but seems unlikely.

More like out-beyond-the-Orion-Belt, what-the-fcuk-are-you-smoking unlikely, but whatever. :speechless:

When I wrote "after that kind of shellacking, Likud's new leader would agree a bloc with him [Bennett]", I meant that an election which drops Likud from 32 to 22 will surely see a leadership vote and Bibi's ouster.

That new Likud leader would likely agree a bloc with Bennett that would have 40 seats and be just 2 seats short of the magic number of 60 by linking up with the Haredi parties again.

The things is, Bibi is Bibi. If he lost that vote, he'd form his own micro party of 2-3 and scheme like mad to prevent anyone and everyone else from forming any coalition. Then he can continue as a caretaker PM until the president is forced to call fresh elections, after which maybe, just maybe, he'll finally be voted out - if those elections aren't inconclusive either.:sick:

Yep, spot on. Bibi, first and foremost, is a shrewd politician. He's kind of like Littlefinger and plays the game really well.

Veteran foreign correspondent Dan Perry is the former president of Jerusalem's Foreign Press Association and Middle East Editor at the AP as well as a long-time resident of Israel. In a long and pretty successful career, he's reported from about 100 countries.

Interviewed on Al Jazeera a few days ago, he described Bibi as by far the most extreme case of the Louis XIV Complex he's ever seen, anywhere.

Someone like that will never go quietly. The only question is how much damage he'll do on the way out

In any case, Leittlefinger was much more trustworthy :whistling::whistling:

I'm generally a supporter of Israel actually and I actually like the tough line they take against the IRI because I am anti-IRI. However, in terms of US interests, US does need to show tough love. US has been an enabler of Israel's bad acts that have actually damaged its own interests. It reminds me of a rich parent that loves his or her child but the child is addicted to cocaine and heroine. Instead of cutting off the child from the parents money, the parents give their kid money because they want to feel that the kid loves them when in fact they are damaging the kid.

I swear if I saw what Israel just did in a movie I would have accused the writers of writing sci fi

So they somehow disseminated 1200 pagers that had a little bit of explosives(?) in them to Hezbollah on them and today they detonated them

1200 people injured in Lebanon .... the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon included

People are speculating that Israel hacked the pagers and made their batteries overheat and explode. Don't know if that's more or less feasible than physically booby trapping them.
