    Didi to undergo summer op

Dietmar Hamann will go under the surgeon's knife at the end of the season in a bid to cure the problem that has forced him to miss the last eight games.

The Reds midfield star has been troubled by an ankle injury since coming back from the World Cup and he accepts that an operation is the only option if he is to avoid any long-term damage.

However, he will delay surgery until the summer in a bid to help Liverpool's quest for honours. He has recently resumed light training with a view to making a first team return next month.

According to another article I read it's a build up of calcium on his shin just above the ankle.

We sure have missed him, and it could be another long couple of weeks yet without him. :(

GH - Hamann back in action soon

Gerard Houllier said Dietmar Hamann is more than likely to be ready for first team action again in early February.

The German international has been sidelined since December 15th with an ankle injury and needs surgery at the end of the season.

Asked when we can expect to see Hamann back in action, Houllier said: "I don't know. All I can tell you is the pain seems to be going, so by the end of the month, beginning of February hopefully he will be available."

  5. Good news:

Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann took his first step on the road to full fitness by playing for an hour in the Reds reserves 5-0 thumping of Bradford City last night.

Hamann came through the 60 minute run-out without suffering any reaction to the shin injury which has sidelined him over recent weeks, and he could come into contention for a place in the first team squad this weekend when Liverpool take om Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
