I actually think they are pretty equal and both destined to become world class goalkeepers.

I have to give it to Ochoa for the only fact he has way more experience.

    Copa America's
    Copa Libertadores
    World Cup
    Copa Sudamericana
    Confederations Cup

Guzan is better, he is as good of a shot stopper but better off his line and more of a physical presence.

Ochoa is obviously the best goalkeeper in the western hemisphere, the kid is only 22 years old and is alreading getting attention from european teams.

Experience means nothing. Oswaldo Sanchez is experienced and sucke din the WC (got a free pass on some crappy performances because of his dad), Meola is more experienced that Ochoa would you rather have him? Barthez won a world cup do you really think hes better than any of those goalies (Keller, Friedel, Ochoa, Guzan)?

Ochoa was mostly a bench warmer in most of those competitons (except the Club America involved ones).

The good news is Ochoa is great, the bad news is hes the best MEX will ever have if he gets hurt.....

meanwhile Guzan is awesome, but theres already many more in the US pipeline.

i have to agree with you here. guzan may become just as good or better (who'd have thought brad friedel would become the beast he is?), but he doesn't quite have the resume just yet.

however, there isn't that big of a gap between the two based on sheer physical ability.

Not now, but in his prime he was up there. He did get best goalie in the Confederations Cup.
He still played and did great.
If you dont know about Mexican keepers you should keep your opinions to yourself. Mexico has a lot of keepers coming up. Villalpando, Osorio, Arias, Corona
Who? Cuz fredel retired and Keller is out of the nats, I doubt he'll be suiting up anytime soon.

Dont get me wrong, I think Guzano is great but I like Ochoa better at this moment.

Still learning math or just the basics of the > and < symbols? :p

I've seen both play. I'd give the nod to Ochoa just because of Copa America. They are both really good, really young, and getting interest from europe. Its pretty close.

At least Ochoa isn't an idiot like Sanchez. I used to like the mexican team goalies because Jorge Campos is one of my favorite players ever, but that Sanchez guy ruined it.

Id say the hemispheres best is easily Howard to say Ochoa is better right now is a joke. GETTING attention from Euro Teams? Um Howard is STARTING at this club called Everton...heard of it?

Arsenal is interested while currently Celtic, Aston Villa, and Fulham are in a bidding war for Guzan. Some would say thats attention. Guzan aint exactly 50 whats he a year older than Ochoa?

And no Manches carnal yo ha visto losporteros en la liga Mexicana y nomas Ochoa y el Columbiano de Pachuca valen madre. So dont ASS-ume i know nothing of Mexi goalies. Mex has some good shot blockers and Oswaldo was a good shot blocker. But as for COMPLETE goalies ie taking command of the air (and having the size for it), holding on to the ball, coming out of the net, reading the game Ochoa is your one and only.

Why even open this thread everyone knows the Mexifans are voting for Ochoa and the American fans are going to vote for Guzan.

Im sure if you asked the rest of Concacaf who the best goalies are theyd say Keller, Friedel, Howard, Hahnamen, then Guzan and Ochoa fighting out for fourth place. with the last two being changed. That is unil later this month when Guzan is in prmiership and Ochoa is still allegedly "getting noticed in Europe"

    A few comments:
Ochoa is an excellent goalkeeper, certainly much better at reading the play than Oswaldo Sanchez is. He is a finesse keeper, and he makes some spectacular saves and has incredibly quick reaction time. Guzan, on the other hand, is not as athletic and quick as Ochoa. And I worry sometimes about his inability to hold onto the ball (and his seeming unwillingness to parry the ball instead of trying to just grab it, unlike Ochoa who seems to always parry the ball, leading to corner kicks but fewer dangerous rebounds). But, Guzan seems to read the plays very well also, and he is most definitely a more physical presence in the box. He's not afraid to stick his head and his body where 99% of keepers around the world wouldn't, which seems pretty damn typical (thank you very much US goalie coaches) of US keepers. And he makes quick decisions to do so. So, in the end, they are both excellent goalkeepers, but have very different styles and qualities. If this were only a discussion about transfer value, Ochoa would definitely have the upper hand because of his experience in a big club in a well-regarded league. But hell, why are we talking about Guzan? Howard is the number 1 keeper for the US right now, as he should be. He's just as quick and spectacular as Ochoa, only bigger and tougher and more controlling of his box (insert macho joke).

As in taller? or bigger body wise? I always thought Howard was on the shorter side for goalies, but i could be wrong

Howard is listed as 6'2'' or 6'3'' (1.88-1.90 m) at 200 lbs (91 kg), whereas Ochoa is about 5'11'' (1.80) at 160 lbs (72 kg) or less. That's what I meant by bigger. Much bigger in fact. But, more importantly, much more aggressive with his body than Ochoa, and much tougher.

All I know is that the Guzan video is by no means his best saves, and I am totally bummed that he's leaving MLS. I am happy for him, but I consider him to be one of the brightest stars we've ever developed, and his turnaround performance in year one when he single-handedly lifted his team and survived the Chivas USA shooting gallery as a kid is the stuff of legends.

If Chivas had made him a DP, I probably would have agreed. He's that good and will only get better.

Guzan is going to Aston Villa.....im pretty sure Ochoa is playing for Club America and that would make him worse.

Ochoa will sale more STUFF so he is getting big time money, more PROMO from the mexican airways. Guzan is as good or better, but he is not in the MEDIA as often as Ochoa. So don't get it mixed up, Guzan would be tops if he had more coverage. Ochoa is great too.

The only reason Ochoa is still in America its because they dont want to sell him to a mediocre team for 4 million dollars. When Ochoa leaves it will be for more than 4 believe me.
