Guyana is a former British colony on the northern tip of South America, with Venezuela on the west and Surinam on the east. Nobody ever hear of Guyana until the Jonestown massacer hit the front pages in the 80’s., and it quickly returned to obscurity after that tragic event. For the adventure traveler, this is a great spot to visit. It has lovely scenery and has very little in the way of tourist development.

You don’t need a visa to travel to Guyana.

    Dutch heists?

Isn't this one of the weird quirks in CONCACAF and COMEBOL alignment? I guess they are just so poor in futbol historically, that the South Americans did not want to include them in their qualifying and in their riches.

Also, there was a British and Dutch Guyana. The Netherlands have lifted a number of good (er, excellent) players from this former colony as they can be eligible for The Oranje, also.

As ignorant as this sounds...are we playing the old British colony or the old Dutch colony (assuming the get past the up and coming Grenada)? I guess it is the British version from what Tom listed previously.

Regardless of where we play...I am psyched and Sam's Army is no doubt starting the bus for a splendid roadie south of the equator.

    Go Yanks!

Vince, how the hell are you? I am glad to see Superlimey back in the discussion about travel as well. Guyana is the English colony, Surinam the Dutch colony, and French Guyana is still a departement of France. They use the Euro and are part of France.
The capital of Guana, Georgetown, is a dump, but there are some nice old Enlgish buildings.

Be prepared for severe poverty upon arrival in Guyana. I knew a couple of people who went and they really didn't talk too much about the place, but to say that it was really poor and dirty. I think they felt thankful for what they had here in the states.
