I liked him when he played in Colombia hasn’t been impressive when called to the NT

My question is why did people celebrate when Roger went to China when Lyon wanted him.

Did Cuellar deject Bologna or did their transfer window end(ran out of money)?

Let me preface this by saying I do not like that he is going to Al- Hilal.

Looking at their roster objectively though they are trying to build a super team in Arabia. (Relative to their opponents of course.)

Giovinco who was the best player in MLS for a handful of years, Bafétimbi Gomis who has played in France and a few times for the National team, Andre Carillo who gets callups by Peru as a striking/winger option.

Yes it still sucks he is going there. Just a very interesting roster.

It sucks for his career he's going there but players careers are short and they have a small window to earn a living, can't really knock someone for prioritizing that. IDK you can usually get both in Europe and this team is pretty stacked, so not like he won't get a chance to play good soccer but its gonna be difficult to play for the NT but with Lerma and Barrios it was going to be difficult anyways.

I was curious about Cuellar's track record since Rueda has given him another chance.

Appears that he started 25 of his team's 30 league matches this season and they are in first place and qualified for their regional CL. He plays most of the time as a possession midfielder beside a 5 and on occasion on right side of a three man midfield. While his team is in the AFC Champions league, he hasnt played their group stage matches and focuses on their league. (Interestingly, the guy playing his role for their top rival is Ever Banega).

I had forgotten that Rueda coached Cuellar at Flamengo in 2017 so it makes sense he would turn to him as he'll have confidence Cuellar will understand what he is looking for. You wonder if Rueda being the dt creates a rare chance for him to be relevant to the NT again (as it appears to also be the case for Seb Perez).

Cuellar is such a strange case - so few of our guys go to Brasil (vs Mex or Arg or straight to Europe) and he did pretty well there... Just went to the Middle East so early in his career.

Four years ago, Pep called it Reinaldo's effect. He never really showed his best in the NT even when he was in top form in Brazil, if Rueda gambles on him now, you hope he delivers.

I always wanted Cuellar to get called even though he was in Saudi Arabia.
Let's see if Rueda can bring out the best in him.

I can't remember very well but I think his transfer fee was pretty high and his salary too. They had rejected an offer from Bologna that same window. Nothing we haven't seen before, just comes down to money,

Yep. I meant strange like unusual rather than mysterious.

His was a unique case to begin with because he was a hit in Brasil on the most popular team (arguably in the world), playing deep into Libertadores - when our guys have trended to have less impact there than other leagues. Then to take a money driven deal as you say when he could have gone to Italy at that age - we have the Quintero example now that's similar but Quintero is an outlier for so many reasons.

If he were to hit in these NT opps, does he try to make a move back to a more visible league having banked that sweet Saudi money? I don't recall other cases that have pulled that off (Jackson was never the same after China but had down turned before going there, maybe Roger Martinez?). Dude is only 28.

Hope it happens think America the best bet. Top team and can probably start. Don’t see him starting at Valencia and Turkey is a wasteland for the NT…. But then again Rueda called him in Saudi Arabia so who knows

I hate how every single one of my favorite midfielders that I was so hyped over had completely underwhelming careers

    Sebastián Perez, Cuellar, Celis.

It actually makes me really sad
