I just saw that Colorado beat LA 3-1 yesterday in the "MLS Spring Training Copa Carnaval doubleheader" in Miami. (Go Colorado!). http://mlsnet.com/games/03/tracker.php?gamename=03052003_COLLA&version=recap But the really interesting thing is that 5!! players got exjected from the game with a total of 11 cards dished out (3 LA and 2 Colorado). And the ref in charge of this misconduct disaster... Gus St. Silva. For the more astute fans of the Earthquakes of 2002 might remember a game or two that were decided by this wonderful ref in Spartan Stadium. So my question, is this indicative of the quality of refereeing we will see from Gus in MLS during the 2003 season? Does 5 ejections (and 11 cards) speak more to the poor sportsmanship of LA and Colorado or is it more on the back of the ref to keep the game under control? FWIW, Hankinson thought most if not all of the cards were legit. There's a thread in the Rapids forum (the one talking about the game with a link to a story about the game with quotes) that talks about this.
Thanks for posting this Randy. It's better to know what your enemy is doing than to be in the dark. PS: I'm sure you have the secretery's position all sewn up, you can stop campaigning now
Not a problem. Any thoughts though? I mean we haven't really heard anything about the changes for Refs this year and Johnny Moore didn't seem to happy with their preformance last year at the CQ Q & A meeting. On the election thing, John says the Elections will hopefully be live tonight. Hopefully then I will know that I have secured the position (as I don't think anyone is running against me.
Lucky for you, I withdrew. That little indescretion with the Clubquake intern knocked my popularity rating in the dirt.
Re: Re: Gus St. Silva Strikes Again What he said? Whoops. I thought you were talking about LDB's intern problem.
Wasn't GSS quietly removed from the ref pool after the last mega-card debacle? Or am I thinking of some other incompetent?
As I recall, the topic was what needs to be improved from last year and Johnny Moore inserted "referees, referees". It was actually quite funny coming from him, but there wasn't really any follow-up on it. Randy Overbeck
