Rumor: Gunners 'strike Vermaelen deal'

I'm just not sure that this Vermaelen guy is going to be able win headers for us. I mean, just look at how short he is:

 

Great signing if true. Guy's very very solid. The price is a little inflated, but I think thats what happens when you announce to the public the kind of players you're looking for.

More importantly though, does this break up the "black four?"

Not to get too involved, but it wouldn't be African American, because none of our guys are from America.

 

It does seem like it has been ages since we have had a good white defender. You all need to step your game up.

 

First heard about this 24 hrs ago on FSC. For whatever reason it struck me as less rumor than done deal.

Maybe because Wenger was uncharacteristically forthright at the end of the season about strenghthening the squad in the summer.

Maybe because some of his harshest criticisms this year have been about our defense.

Don't know squat about this guy Vermaelan. Nor how to pronounce his name!

Too bad he's not 6'3" but we can just hope Arsene has done his homework and that he's got the quality of Nasri & Arshavin, without the the lameness of Rosicky (& Bischoff?).

 

Little beknownst that the Willem II player he is pictured with is only 3 foot 5.

 

If it were Kolo or Gallas though they'd have mistimed the jump and the ball would have sailed by, allowing that midget attacker through on goal.

 

It's a bit hard to be African American when you're not American.

 

I was watching a video of him on YouTube. It contained many clips od him scoring a goal with his head. He's probably a header speacialist, but I hope he can bring more to the table than just head a freaking ball.

Boss is all talks about his vaunted youth policy. Deep inside he knows that unless he produces wins and a cup next year AND can hold on to top 4, he will go bye bye. Like others and I have said, the emergence of City and Everton along with the "other" club and Villa and Cottagers will be tough for our "boys". So, AW is looking for a few men. Fair enough for me. If anything, Le Boss is pragmatic.

Yes, this is exactly why he is looking to replace Touré (28) or Gallas (31) in the team with a much younger player in Vermaelen‎ (23).

 

City finished 10th this season. People need to stop shitting their pants over them. Fulham were solid this year, but I'd bet they finish lower this coming season. We're never ensured european football, but our rivals will be Chelsea, Manu and liverpool, because this team will be battling for 1st. We're already good enough, this summer is all about finding stability and consistency.

 

You do realize that the other player is jumping as well, right?

It's a little difficult to get the necessary leverage to leapfrog a person when they're not actually touching the ground.
