Gio scores at the death knell to beat Argentina 1-0

Jeffers scores in the 3-1 humiliation against Australia. Campbell and Cole played in the first half but there's no real mention of their performances.

Hnery, Wiltord, Viera and Pires all saw time in France's 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic. No real commentary on their performances, but it should be noted that both France and England were booed off the field.

Brazil and China tied 0-0, no mention of Gilberto in this report but cnnsi says he went the full 90. Brazil's coach blamed the poor performance on jet lag, which makes me think he should've listened to Wenger.

Thanks for the info, fpf. A post I read on the Arsenal list called Wiltord France's best player (no, I didn't write that). I taped the game so I'll see for myself tonight.

I've just come back from watching the England game and no one deserved a mention on their play! With (in the first half) the majority of the team consisting of Arsenal and Man. Ure. players, and with the 5th round F.A. Cup clash this coming Saturday, I'm surprised that "Super Sven" couldn't work that out! Who is going to risk anything in a meaningless friendly, (other than another "historical defeat" to rate alongside the USA in the 1950 World Cup) when the "big clash" of the F.A. Cup is looming around the corner.?!

From what I've read, the game was uglier than a bowling shoe. And Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep wearing a bowling shoe. And nothing else.

    Vive le AFC!

The irony is that it's roughly the same distance as the successful trip to Korea and Japan.

Hey, just wondering if you've seen the tape yet and what you thought of it.

Yeah, I watched it last night and, as much as I like Wiltord, I didn't think he did a whole lot. He improved a bit near the end of the first half.

The player who had a real shocker, though, was Zidane. I'm a huge fan, but he was terrible for most of the first half (he actually played the entire game but I didn't watch the 2nd half too closely). Of course, he also had moments where he took my breath away, but he was really off.

Pires got a hearty welcome back, including a sign saying 'Welcome home' in English(!).

    Thanks.

I stumbled across the end of Hol-Arg last night and caught Gio's goal. I think Henry might be rubbing off on him because it was a beauty. Cross came in from the right, Gio was 25y out on the left side of the box, he caught it with one foot, let it bounce once and stepped in with the other foot to send a laser-volley to the far post. Really, that goal was well beyond what I've seen him do in a red-and=white kit and we'd all be very pleased if he could start doing that for us.

I think Gio might be starting to come around - he actually scored a very similar goal against Chelsea on New Year's Day - it was our second in the 3-2 win, and it was certainly the prettiest of the 3.

I never saw him with Rangers, but I know some fans here love the guy based on what they saw. But I'm not sure he'll ever get a real run out at Arsenal, because it's so crowded in midfield, and I'm still not convinced about him as a left back.
