Truth in advertising The NRA and other gun nuts have been debating whether or not follow suit only they're having trouble choosing which if the following slogans to use on their sites: "If we don't have guns, how can we defend our freedom by defeating our own tank, missile, chemical weapons and high altitude bomber equipped armed forces in battle?" "Guns: all the over-compensating penis extension power of a Ferrari at 1/1,000th the price." "Hey, troubled teens and the criminally insane need machine guns too, you know." "Sure, that gun in your home is much more likely to be used against you or someone you love than a real live Bad Guy but at least you'll FEEL secure until you get blown away." "Hey ladies, look what guns did for Thelma and Louise!" "Free grits, salsa and showings of 'Red Dawn' every Friday night down at Clem's house!"

I treat sockpuppets and their posts with all the respect they deserve. None.
I saw this in FFA, but thought I'd answer it here, where it belongs. I stand midway between the two sides of the gun control fray. I believe in the Second Amendment, but I feel that taking the proper amount of responsibility in gun ownership - which, sadly, is rare. I honestly believe that the two sides could get along if the "control" people would be less paranoid, and the "gun" people would be more responsible. Needless to say, that takes the gang bangers out of the mix, and no law is going to change what they do either way. I've been licensed to carry a concealed weapon for more years than I care to mention, receiving my initial training courtesy of our government. I do feel that anyone who choses to own a gun (of any sort) should be trained in its proper usage. With the exception of a firing range, one does not point a gun unless one plans to shoot, and one does not shoot unless one plans to kill. Period. There are too many idiots that hike up their pants, saying, "I'm gonna get me a gun for protection!" and think that "winging" someone will do the job. If you break into my house, get past the security system, the double deadbolts, and "other" alarm, I will shoot you. I will aim to kill, and I assure you, my aim is in the 96 percentile range. If you like those odds, come try me. There are several personal protection courses available, and the best I've taken was through the NRA (although I'm not a member). Their seminar teaches PERSONAL PROTECTION, and one does not have to learn to shoot to pass the course. It does give good, solid advice on what to do if someone breaks into your home, your car, or attacks you on the street. More often than not, a gun is NOT the answer. That's what this course is about - knowing the hows and whens in self defense. Once you've taken the course and selected your weapon, you have the moral obligation to make sure that no one who doesn't know what they're doing even breathes on your gun! That means, dear gun control idealists, if you stop over at my house unexpectedly and I tell your kids to stay the hell out of my bedroom, I mean it! Nothing ticks me off faster than parents who don't care if their kid wanders about someone else's house - especially a house where there is a gun. I will usually not allow a child into my house before disposing of my weapon, so don't get all ticked off if you have to wait outside a few moments while I lock it up. Bottom line is, people do own guns. Many shouldn't. Those who shouldn't don't care about the laws. Those who care about the laws should take the proper precaution before and while owning a weapon, of any caliber. I'll get off my soapbox now.
I agree that there is room to compromise here. Too bad that neither side will give an inch. Why not say "I'll give in on concealed carry, if you give in on barrel fingerprinting" (New guns would be test fired, and the unique signature left on the bullet would be stored in a database for use in criminal investigations). There is lots of legal precedent to say that there is no absolute constitutional right to keep arms. Its simply a matter of coming to some agreement on what "reasonable" limitations are. Two problems with this. Most guns start out in the hands of legal buyers. Criminals buy them second-hand or steal them. If you restrict the flow of legal guns into the market, you will reduce the number of guns in the hands of criminals. Second, there are lots of gun crimes committed by people who are not hardened criminals. Someone might "care about laws" today, but turn to crime tomorrow if circumstances in their life take a turn for the worse.

Translation: In leau of having a knowledgeable opinion about the topic, much less articulating it, I thought I'd rather play highchair king and denounce the "newbies". Did you want some cheese with your whine, bubi? ; )
No, there's no translation necessary. I said what I meant, and I meant what I said. I don't respond to blatant sockpuppets.
Re: Closed-caption for the thinking impaired... Loney's right. This NEVER gets old... So, who's sock puppet ARE you, anyway?
Not responding- by way of response "I don't respond to blatant sockpuppets"- whiner, in response to said agitator. I'm guessing you didn't do well on standardized written tests. Just a hunch...oh, and this isn't a response ; )
Lob for a loudmouth... "not even a clever one at that. " Great. Want to debate me on the subject at hand? I'm sure you won't have any trouble with me, being so clever and all. I'll debate you on any aspect of the firearms rights issue on this or any public thread of your choice. You DO back up your comments, right? I'm sure you aren't a whiner AND a ***************...
Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought... simonov, it's just like all of those girls who smack your face are always telling you...no means no. What is it like to crawl through life Gut-less? Must be a curiously impotent sensation for you...
Re: Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought... says the person, apparently completely unaware of the irony, who creates a new identity on a soccer message board just so he can talk about gun control, without people knowing his other identity.
Re: Re: Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought... Do you really want to treat him with no respect? Then stop replying to him!
Re: Re: Re: Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought... Anyone else forming an opinion as to who this guy might be a sockpuppet for?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought... I'm guessing you, since you seem to be enamored with it/him.
