Gullit attacks Shearer

Shearer is a one celebration pony.

Stick your right arm up in the air, smile like a goof and run like the wind.

 

better than Solskjær's celebration. All he does is have that stupid grin. I want to hit him.

 

Would you say Gullit is correct or is he just trying to cover up for his crap coaching , since he just recently aquired a new job, I grew up loving Gullit, but all Shearer seems to do is score, so i never understood why he sat that goal scoring monster on the bench.

Gullit is just doing that typical Dutch arrogance thing and hitting out over something that still burns him. He's never - not ever - had to deal with a situation where the force of his ego would not prevail. Even at USA '94 his response to having his ego confronted rather than placated was to storm off in a huff. He's simply never dealt with a situation where a man of greater (and more justifiable) stature than himself was allowed to remain in control of a situation that Gullit felt should be his to master. That's why he acted the way he did at Newcastle and that's why he failed in the way he did at Newcastle. No one - and I mean NO ONE - is bigger than Alan Shearer at Newcastle. Now, you can think of that what you will, neither he nor the Toon Army care one iota, but them's the straight facts of life.

It just so happened that the spat Robson and Shearer had the other week coincided with a major Gullit interview with a British paper. Gullit, it is fairly obvious to conclude, is taking the first real opportunity he has had to get a bit back for what was, ultimately, a humiliating lesson for a man so completely used to being given complete freedom to indulge himself in his vision of self.

Shearer is God at Newcastle, and rightly so. Gullit must still be hurting after coming off so second best at Newcastle. He's not recovered from it at all.

 

Interesting article.I have always admired Shearer as a total goalscorer,but a llt of what Guillit says makes sense.
I always knew that Shearer was one dimensional but some here seemed to ignore that and call him the best striker the EPL has ever had.
I would say as a striker Shearer is overrated in MY BOOK,because he has no depth.As a goalscorer he fantastic,but i wouldn't have him on my team.

That's not what i call dimension,shearer is purely a goalscorer.If you want to show me his stats regarding asists,breaking down a defence,passing ability and speed and creativity.C'mon man you can't convince me of any of that without stats,but he is a great player for what he does,like RVN ans Owen.

It's incredible how you only consider the dimensions that suit your argument. Is leadership not a quality? Is scoring with either foot & your head not a dimension? Is leadership not a dimension? I could go on, but if you can explain how these are not legitimate dimensions of a player, I would be very grateful.

 

Pointless discussion because nurspec takes no account of Shearer's role. He's not in the team to "make assists" (the wankiest of all the wanky modern footballing "dimensions", just by the by), he's in the team to make the net bulge, to score. He's in the team to drag an often desperately ordinary Newcastle side through games by the scruff of their necks. That - and only that - is the single valid parameter for evaluating his stature. The fact that he performs those two tasks with as diverse and flexible a range of skills as he does is all very nice and nurspec betrays his lack of insight by questioning the obvious, but it is ultimately irrelevant that Shearer is the multi-faceted player he is.

 

A players worth should be defined by what he can do for a team on a consistent basis.If shearer can't get around Ferdinand,Gallas,Silvestre,and all the other great defenders in the EPL then he is rendered as deadweight,just a body on the field.If he is able to split the defence with a pass,take two players with him as a decoy
or become effective with free kicks what good is he.I fully understand Shearers role as a player and it's to put the ball in the back of the net,and that's all he can do.But don't call him the best striker ever to play in the EPL,that's not a thing i can agre on.

Now you can call Newcastle ordinary if you want,but i'll tell you what i guarentee you if they were up for grabs Arsenal,Chelsea and Man U would be after Robert,Jennas,Dyer.Those guy's are top notch in my oppinion,and i for one think there are suffereing from Shearers god like admiration at the club.I think people need to reevaluate what is more important to the team without shearers input,if he's as selfish as Gullit say's.
But that's that stubborn English stupidity for you,the reason England will never win a thing,even with some of the ebst players in the world.
Sherarer even took himself out of international play,but the Newcastle "faithful" won't let it go.

Look, Shearers doing a fine job this season netting goals for a team who base their offence around him,but they have nothing to show for it.If they don't watch out,the young up and commers will look elsewhere to further their careers.

Robert was available as little as six months ago and is only at the club because no one came in for him. Chelsea may indeed find Dyer or Jenas interesting, but that has more to do with their apparent determination to be sole owners of the European midfielder mountain than anything else.

Why? How does it affect three midfielders (one of whom has been a revelation in any case, another who has been almost permanently injured and one more who is the epitome of erratic Gallic flair)? That makes no sense, it's just a sentence for the sake of it.

Since July 2000, Shearer has scored 86 goals in 136 games, Newcastle have had only their second Champions League campaign ever and are now in the QF of the UEFA Cup for the first time since about 1853 (courtesy, in part, to two goals and a couple of astute flick-ons from Shearer). The Newcastle "faithful" (the parenthesis, just by the by, simply reinforces that you are typing without actually thinking here) have every reason to hold on and none to let it go. But then they know the reality of the situation, rather than just guessing at it (badly) from afar.
