Is it just me...or is watching this team really entertaining.

These guys are probably the most suprising team in this competition. They're a constant threat and just never seem to quit. If I could replace Togo in the WC2006, it would be with Ivory Coast or Camroon. But third has to be Guinea. I think they've earned their own thread...:)

    Talk.

Guinea definitely play hard and have some skilled and athletic attackers, but I'm not entirely convinced. The first half today was pretty bad, and neither Zambia or South Africa are that good. They don't possess the ball that well in the middle of the pitch, so if you neutralize the flanks you can shut them down. But I do like them, and will be really interested in what they can do in the second round against either Nigeria, Senegal, or Ghana. Then we'll see how good they really are. I'm not sure the game against Tunisia will show too much, especially if Tunisia win today and they've both already qualified.

I've been impressed by Guinea as well, though I'm a bit biased. It's a bit surprising, though, because as a fan of the Syli national for over a decade, they usually are great at home (unbeaten at home in competitive matchs since '94 or '95) but travel poorly. So their success, even against unconvincing opponents, is a step in the right direction.

Well, Cote d'Ivoire DID qualify for Germany so they couldn't replace Togo. :)

Interestingly, Guinea were a whisker away from qualifying for WC98 instead of Nigeria. Only a dubious penalty in Kenya in the penultimate qualifier knocked them out.

It's early on in a relatively meaningless match, but they're 1 up on Tunisa in the group decider.

Let's hope they make it further than 2004.

Remember that quarter-final against Mali where the Guinean GK let in that bad long range goal in the last minutes?
