These would be movies that you really like, but are hesitant to admit in public or to your friends that you enjoy. Somewhere in Time - I don't care if a critic said that Christopher Reeve looks like a canary on helium in this movie, this is a 10 tissue movie - but for tearing up *sniff* instead. Jane Seymour never looked better. Xanadu - The guy in this didn't deserve a Muse like Kira. Gene Kelly appears and dances one or two numbers. But you can't take your eyes off Olivia Newton-John whenever she's on screen. Yummy. Grease 2 - Ok, Michelle Pfieffer in a pink leather jacket was good. Songs about Bowling as a metaphor for sex, not so good. T-Bird trying to score in his dad's fallout shelter by claiming that "nucleoid war" was on the way, good. Maxwell Caulfield or Dance Fever / TJ Hooker alumn Adrian Zmed - who's more out of place here? Whatever the case, even though it's mostly bad, I'll watch it if it's on TV.
Its gotta be some of those 80's B movies like: The legend of Billie Jean Just one of the Guys and Better off Dead I used to watch these on tv everyweek on Channel 11.
Sean Connery at his.... well, certainly not the best. Weird ass flick. Also, Can't Hardly Wait - a teen movie that tries to do too much, but it's sometimes the attempt, not the result that makes it so good. Plus, it ended up being a showcase for some decent young actors. The Replacements - cliché sports flick, predictable and implausible story, ill-formed characters, etc etc. Enjoyable nonetheless Empire Records - Again, a movie that tries a little too hard for its own good. Tries to be so cool, it's goofy.
Karate Kid. Obvious guilty pleasure, but I can't help mentioning it. Wonderfully formulaic. It has classic lines such as "Wax on, wax off," and "Get him a body bag." Plus it has the all-time greatest IM/rec league team nickname, Cobra Khan.
That's Cobra Kai, actually. Still, great guilty pleasure flick. "Sweep the leg!" "What?" "Sweep the leg!" And for full effect the "Put him in a body bag, Johnny!" line has to be shouted with glee. Plus, it has the cheesiest movie theme songs of all time: "You're the best, around/nothing's gonna ever keep you down"
Dammit, now I'm going to have that song in my head all day. Is that Peter Cetera? Or did he do the song in Karate Kid 2? And I can't believe I got Cobra Kai wrong.
Joe "Bean" Esposito did "You're the Best" Peter Cetera did "The Glory of Love" on KK 2. Don't ask me how I know this.
My name is bocatuna and I'm addicted to US high school/college comedies. Loser, Never been kissed, Bring it on, 10 things I hate about you, Shes all that, etc. I love them all.
Some of those are kinda sweet. I really like She's All That, and it's sooooooo cheesy. I actually kinda like Idle Hands too - mostly for Jessica Alba. Empire Records and Can't Hardly Wait are two other films I really like too. Empire is on VH1 right now (we were watching a little bit during lunch here at work).
Hell, I own it on DVD... and Agutter is fine in the film. But I didn't think it was a bad or cheesy film. Except for the effects, and the old man in the capitol building.
Greatest song ever......I don't care who you are...when Daniel gets the point off that guy and Elisabeth Shue yells out 'you're the best!', then the song starts.....magical, I tell you, magical!......I will sit down and watch that anytime its on.....and I'm not embarrassed to say it..... Mr. Miyagi laying a beat down on the guys after the halloween dance is another great scene.... My guilty pleasure.....I said it up here before but, 'Urban Cowboy' is one of my all time favorites...everything about the movie is great...right down to the ending where Bud puts Sissy's personalized license plate back behind the passenger seat of his pickup.....
Yep, I saw it as well, additionally, it looks like more and more violence and gore is making its way past the editors. They even showed the brain sucking sequence in full. I'll put Strip Tease on my guilty pleasure list.
I confess... "Escape to Victory". This despite an entire BS thread slighting this movie. Maybe it is the sight of Sylvester Stallone as a maverick goalkeeper. Or perhaps it is Max von Sydow with a heart. Oh, well.
I also have to second Van Wilder. The amazing thing about VW is the soundtrack. And the funny thing is most of the good songs are not even on it.
