Perhaps. If he is willing to come back, his team willing to sell him, and FCD willing to sign him, yes. It may take a DP, and Dallas will certainly have a YSA next year, so it could be done. Gator...my mistake. At least I did not bet on Ohio State. Dead but dreaming, Scipio Diabolus, vox fatum. Contra.
No way would I even consider a DP for Guevara. That has already been done by Chivass and was a monumental failure. My question was, could we use an allocation or a group of partial allocations to get Guevara back since he is no longer MLS property. ALLOCATION not DP.
The Guevara deal may still be alive according to the Dallas Morning News Guevara draws attention: FC Dallas has set its sights on a former MVP. Midfielder Amado Guevara has broken ties with Chivas USA, even though he remains on the team's roster, manager Preki said. Preki has criticized Guevara this season for his lack of effort. Guevara, the 2004 MVP while playing with the MetroStars, has shown interest in playing for FC Dallas. Club officials had dismissed any talk of adding the player until recently. "He's a player that I've been interested in before," Morrow said. "When I heard he was available, I expressed an interest. We have been talking over that situation in the last few days, but nothing has been resolved." Morrow said he is not worried about Guevara's reputation as a troublemaker. The Honduran national team captain had eight goals and five assists for New York in 2006, before being traded to Chivas USA in the off-season. Guevara's agent, Patrick McCabe confirmed Wednesday that negotiations between FC Dallas and Chivas USA are ongoing. "Amado would be very interested to go to Dallas," McCabe said. "Unfortunately, this situation is out of his hands."
Seriously.....This only makes sense if it's a steal. If we can give Chivas a few draft picks and they can pick up part of his salary...then it's a good deal. Maybe we throw in a role player or something....or that rumored Jason Kries allocation. Nothing of huge value. I mean you can't sit there and look at the Chivas situation, having given up their DP slot for him, and not realize that limiting your investment in Guevara is of upmost importance.
Either get a crappy allocation far down the list and have him go to Honduras SOL, or get a few draft picks and Arturo Alvarez, that's what I'd tell Chivas. Give em our 1st round pick(remember we have Toronto's #1 next year in the Mulrooney trade) and Arturo Alvarez....any higher price and no thanks.
If Guevara goes to Honduras Chivas gets an allocation. As such I say we offer them a slightly better allocation or the Kries allocation and a crappy draft pick. We appear to be the only bidders and the only counter-offer is an allocation. If they want more they have to eat some of his salary.
Are Ruiz's actions of the last couple days related to Guevara at all? Aren't he and Guevara buddies? ...something is starting to stink....
I don't know where the allocation falls on the "list" (or even how important that is anymore, considering most use the allocation for salary cap manuevering and not returning USMNT acquisitions), but the value of the allocation will be directly tied to the transfer fee. Considering his likely destination is a Honduran club, I can't imagine the value to be all that high. It's not like they have a lot of cash to spend on transfers, nor is Amado, with his volatile past, likely to be worth that much to anyone. Still, there is more flexibility with even a small allocation than there is with Alvarez and some draft picks. Depends on the draft picks, I suppose. I don't think we are necessarily in the position to absolutely dictate the terms of the trade to Chivas, but we certainly have some things working in our favor.
FYI, even if you think we can trade draft picks for Guevara (doubtful), we will have to "give up" some players because with him and Ricchetti it would make us two over par on our count of senior roster players. Pitchkolen and Wagenfuhr would be out.
I can see it now. HSG finally decides to burn their DP and they do it on a guy that will quit the team eventually. Glad we didn't pay that guy playing in Holland. WTF
Guevara to FCD is still very much alive. He has not been sold anywhere yet and Dallas is still in play.
Guevara is not a DP. Of course this statement could apply to Ruiz also considering he will be a DP next season and he quits on the team yearly. Please remind me why again is he so beloved? I am with E66, this league has figured out Ruiz. I say trade him now while we can still get something good for him.
Let's not forget, Guevara wants to come to unite with Castro (Ruiz) if he leaves, the whole thing is a bust.
whatever his current deal is I imagine. it's not like a deal is in place. I'm just saying that Guevara is still with Chivas and Dallas is interested.
Not saying it would be a problem, just pointing out that there will HAVE to be some players involved. Also, if Guevara goes away, Chivas gets an allocation. So whatever we give up would have to be better than the league allocation.
A fan's prayer.... Dear Soccer Gawdz, Please instill wisdom into the minds of the FCD FO. Watch over them and make sure they don't do anything stupid. Keep them from seeing dazzling images of Amado Guevara circa 2000....and remind them of Amado Guevara of last season. Thank you, Gawdz....you are our only hope.
Depends on how big said allocation would be. If they are selling him cheap, and I can't imagine these small Honduran clubs would pay much, then the allocation will be tiny. We can easily trade away a partial allocation, or include it in the deal. I'm good with a small allocation and a role player that has little future with the club. I'd consider that a steal for a former MVP.
My sarcasm was intended to imply that FCD would wrongly spend a DP when not necessary. The inference to Holland is the screwup of not signing Edgar Davids.
