With all of the talk about FCD being unable to get service to Carlos and Kenny, Amado's latest flameout and his interest in FCD beg the question. Per the MLS Underground site, Amado is not interested in reporting to TFC and has narrowed down his options to FCD or going back to Honduras. MLS Underground Story Thursday, May 3, 2007 BREAKING: Guevara Says "No" to Trade Amado Guevara has refused the trade from Chivas USA to Toronto FC a source with knowledge of the negotiations told MLS Underground. Playing for Head Coach Mo Johnston was one of the key factors in Guevara turning down the trade. FC Dallas or a return to Honduras are the only other options Guevara would consider at this point.
They're trashing him pretty hard on the Sideline Views blog. For instance: http://sidelineviews.blogspot.com/2007/05/bye-now.html And the TFC faithful were JUST crowing about how he was going to single-handedly save their season. Silly rabbits.. you can't use your hands!
I know, back when they were trying to get rid of him in NY, he wanted to come to Dallas. Supposedly he and Ruiz are buddies. Back then it was Eddie Johnson for Guevara. Now it wouldn't need to be as big of a deal...his value, but not neccesarily his ability, has fallen greatly. This might be a bargain for FCD. It's a risky move...he could very easily be a cancer....but he is an MVP caliber player, and could be what this offense needs to be dangerous. I'm actually thinking this could happen.
This is a pretty funny read, TFC fans were shitting their pants with excitement when they thought he was going to be playing for them next week, now they are talking about how they hate the guy and are glad he isn't coming. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=530433
Man, I am totally conflicted on this one. Guevara has been a putz most of his career. He's got a lazy streak, and he isn't all that team oriented... On the other hand, the guy has serious skills when he chooses to use them. We need someone that can distribute through the middle and hold the ball offensively... If there is any way (please, God) to swap with Hislop on this deal, then it might be worth doing. ...It all boils down to how Morrow would mesh with the guy. If he mixes well with Carlos, and can get the ball to Pesky's feet, then I say do it. Carlos without proper service is very pedestrian, just like most decent strikers. I still feel our biggest hit has been in losing Oscar in recent years, and Amado comes the closest to his style of play. Damn, I'll say it again... Let's do it!
Amado Guevara Richard Mulrooney Conor Casey Not a bad bunch of guys who have refused to play for Toronto.
Buyer's market, boys... we shouldn't have to give up much at all to get Guevara. If anything, we should make them take Hislop or have them cover part of Guevara's cost (in the Mathis fashion).
Unless the league doesn't care if he leaves....in which case we have very little negotiating power. Chivas couldn't care less, they were willing to trade him for basically a squad player. If he leaves for nothing they'd probably be happy. I don't see how they would take Shaka unless FCD paid some of his cap number...and then we'd have to fit Amado on our cap.
If he comes, and he poisons the lockerroom with his dumbarse ways, can we poison him? He's a friggin' douchbag. But if he can do the job with minimal bs I'd do it....... unless Ricchetti is the golden child. Then whatever.
Guevara is more of a true central mid than a pure attacking midfielder. Also, with Ruiz and Guevara we would have two players that have a tendancy to quit when things aren't going well...
For me it's a bit like the question of whether or not Ruiz should be made captain - normally I'd say "no way" (forwards should not wear the armband....the should *score goals*), but one had to at least admit to the potential upside of such a move. (Whether or not it was a good move will have to be determined at the end of the season.) With Guevara, the spectre of "malcontent" gives me pause. After all, big moves were made leading up to the season to remove such personalities from the team. But just as in the Ruiz case, the potential upside is undeniable. Morrow made a conscious decision to "go young" with this team...but he's also repeatedly said that he's always looking for ways to make the team better. Tough call.
give them Pitch and Alvarez, and picks, whatever. We need a true #10 and the guy is obviously dying to play here as he's pretty much got on his knees the last few seasons begging to come. BRING HIM IN!
I think Carlos is a different person this year. I don't think we'll see him tanking games when the going gets tough. I think Morrow's notion of making him a captain might eventually go down as sheer genius. Amado? I think he's a bigtime pouter that can't handle it when he's not getting his love, so to speak. I think that's a coach's job to get inside his head and fix that problem once and for all, and much of it comes from showing appreciation. I get the feeling that Mo sucks in that category. Man, the exodus from TFC looks like lemmings running off a freaking cliff!
As do Bradley and Arena and Preki?? I dunno about all that. I think he is what he is....I'm not sure there is a coach on Earth that could make him happy when he decides to be an ahole.
What may be as important to the equation here in Dallas is the cast of players that will surround him. A number of other strong Latin players (Carlos, Dario) that may be able to get the most from him. Perhaps that is the main draw for him to FCD.
I'm guessing all this goes out the window if Carlos goes to Columbus rolleyes: ) like the rumor mill is also turning out.
I don't know this guy, but I do know that you guys were very happy to part ways with an all-star midfielder that was a "locker-room cancer" so I find it interesting to see a lot of people jumping on board with someone that is perceived to be the same.
