I scored 30+ goals as a high school senior, and was featured in People while a college player. Who am I?
I was a college All American forward. I played at the highest level domestically, and have played elsewhere in the hemisphere. I am in the top 4 in all-time minutes played on my MLS team. I have played for the senior national team. I was born the exact same DAY (year and date) as "PaulGascoigne"
Not Cobi. I don't think Cobi's played professionally elsewhere in N. America, and I don't think Cobi's played indoor. I am not one of the biggest most famous names in MLS history (ok, a few people wouldn't put Cobi in this category, but he's up there fairly high). BTW, I checked my stats, and this player is WELL inside the top 5 in terms of all-time minutes on his MLS team (12261 minutes, if my math is correct, and there's no guarantee of that).
Fun thread.... Might this be Ted Eck? All-American at Western Illinois, played in elsewhere in this hemisphere (Canada in the A-League),seems to be in Dallas' top 4 in minutes played, and has earned himself a few caps.
Assuming the above was correct, I'd like to throw one of my favorites into the mix.... I was selected in the inaugural MLS draft, only to be released in the preseason. I have played for two different clubs in Mexico as well as in the US in the APSL, A-League, and MLS. I was a member of the US Olympic team and started every match played during that competition, and then only received 5 caps for the full national side. I was an All-American at the University of Portland and finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club award, only to see Claudio Reyna win it. I have also appeared in two US Open Cup Finals, scoring a goal in my only win.
Indeed, right you are Lime! I believe he's 3rd in minutes, behind 1. Jason (of course) and 2. Zarco, and just ahead of Chad. A guy who gave 100% every time he laced 'em up.
Yari Allnut of course. Any idea what his ancestry is. What kind of name is Yari? Interestingly, in my research for this question, I found that the Metros drafted Juninho in the 1996 supplemental draft. Just think, if Juninho would have come to play for the Metros he would have been a washout with a negligible career instead of a world cup star
That's a good question...Yari was adopted as a child, so it's a tough one to answer. I do know that one of his parents was Mexican, but whether that was one of his natural parents or adoptive parents, I don't know.
Sorry for taking such a long break, but I've, once again, assumed a new identity. I played for the US Olympic team and the senior team. Professionally, I played in two European leagues and in the US. One of my professional teams won a championship. Like most US players of my time, I played and succeeded at the college level before playing as a pro. I'm now working as a coach after battling injuries in my last year as a player.
Nance, are you sure this isn't John Doyle again The only immediate other one that comes to mind is Dario Brose, but I don't know if he played in the Olympics, and he seems a tad on the young side.
You are right, I am Dario Brose. I played in the 92 Olympics in Barcelona. I made five appearances for the senior team and scored a goal against Peru. I played in the French 2nd division and German 3rd division before returning home to play for the San Jose Earthquakes (nee Clash). I won an MLS Championship with the Earthquakes, but didn't contribute much that year, having been sidelined by injuries the entire year. I thought I was coaching the Mid-Michigan Bucks, a PDL team, but when I check their web site, I can only find an article about being signed as coach and a different person is listed as the coach. Go figure. It's tough to be a soccer professional in the US.
Which makes sense. Yari Allnut is indeed Jewish. http://www.jewsinsports.org/olympics.asp?sport=olympics&ID=537
I played college soccer in New Hampshire, but was not good enough to play professionally. I climbed the ladder of success by going into broadcasting. Who am I?
Jack Edwards. EDIT: And if I'm right, someone else can have the next question/scenario. It's quite late here, and I'm off to bed.
