This thread is inspired by the very slow times on the USA soccer scene at this time. See if you can figure who I am by the bio I've provided. All info found on the net. I'm an American who played in the NASL. I was a defender and my team won a championship. After retiring, I coached one team and served as general manager of another. I have a few caps.
You are John Best. You are American, but you were originally a Brit. You played for Cleveland Stokers in the NASL. You were coach of the Seattle Sounders and General Manager of the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Mario - you're right. Now try this: I played in the World Cup and the Olympics for the US. In my professional career, I played in the A league, the Bundesliga and MLS. I'm technical director of a youth league and have my A license. I grew up in California.
I've played many times against the USA. I was the best at my position in my country. I played for a pro team in the USA but I ended up on the bench behind an American so I went away. Who am I???
Okay.. I'll make it easy 'cause I have to go.. I was a goalkeeper and I played for 2 teams in their first years of existance.
I was thinking either Waldo or Caligiuri.... I'm not sure if Waldo has his A license, and I don't think Caligiuri ever played in the A league, only B1 and B2 and MLS. Waldo, of course, played with the Charleston Battery. I guess you're right, it must be Waldo.
I'm a US international and currently playing for a club in Europe. Before Europe, I played all my soccer career in state of California. Who am I?
Nope - not Waldo. Ok - here's another clue - played in a must win game against Canada in order to qualify for the Olympics.
It's not Frankie Hejduk is it? That's the only possibility I can think of before my first cup of coffee.
Mike Lapper played in Bundesliga, MLS, and was on the Olympic team. He seems to have everything but the A-League.
