Wenger: We are still the best
Arse - the best team in the Premiership?

Based on the Prem, they're 2nd. Guess who's first?

Based on the Champions League, they got knocked out in the group stages. We went to the quarters.

    Sounds like a sore loser.

Arsehole Wenger has lost the war of the words. it's high time he shut up.
must stick in his craw though to be runners up - again.

oh yea, so great that his team couldn't hold a 8 point league lead. Then they couldn't hold a 2-0 lead vs Bolton. And they couldn't beat Leeds when they had to win, but yea they're the best team in the premireship.

    ouch. that's a little harsh!

but i imagine it does bother him alot to loose in the fashion they did.

Their form in the last 2 months has been anything but remarkable.

I'm confused as to Wengers comments as well - though I can understand him trying to be defiant and show belief in his team (especially with the impending FA CUP tie on the 17th), but he can't expect anyone to take those comments too seriously

New rumors are linking Wenger to a possible Milan move. I wonder if Wenger will jump?

to be fair Arsenal had a tremendous run last year. all credit to them for that. but for him to even think that they are the best this year is just plain crazy.
we all know SAF has his moments too but Wenger takes the biscuit.

The best team in the Prem [according to Wenger] has a game on Wednesday. The game's probably meaningless at this point, but let's see how the best team in the Prem will conduct itself after, ahem . . . . . losing the Prem.

I can't imagine that they really care about the wednesday match - I'm sure they will want to win, but I dont see Arsenal nor Southampton fielding very strong sides. It will most likely resemble a friendly.

The real match on the 17 should prove pretty interesting. Having shown little bottle in the last month, I wonder if Arsenal will respond with determination? They probably will considering the wrath and dissapointment from Arsenal fans if they fail to win anything after all the proclamations of a power-shift in the premiership.

Southhampton have done well to get where they are, but have not been sparkling in the leage either. But FA finals usually brings a teams level up - espicially when they havent won anything in years.

My prediction is a 3-2 Arsenal win.

Wenger's comments, ignorant as they are, will look much worse if Arsenal fail to win the FA Cup.

In a Soccernet article, Arse-sin is back to the "we have no money" card, saying he won't be able to compete in the summer transfers, while ManUtd sign another 30 million pound player.

    1) Who is the 30 million pound player we're going to sign?

    2) If Arsenal is incompable of competing on the field or off, how were they in first place for so long? Luck?

    3) Certainly, had Arsenal held on, we wouldn't be hearing this, Pity Us, we have no quid crap.

I feel bad for Gunners fans in a way. If Wenger kept his mind on his work instead of these childish mind games with Sir Alex, they might win more trophies than they already do. They're a good side with a dangerously delirious director. I hope Wenger doesn't jump ship, him leaving might be the worst thing to happen to the rest of the Premiership. Keep the French Folly right where he is, thank you.

well, the other year United paid £28m for Seba, then £29.1m last year for Rio....

but yes, since the transfer market has had "an adjustment" those days are over.

And yes, if Arsenal hadn't imploded in the last half, I'm sure Wenger's comments would be different.

The only thing I find strange is how a manager could "have the best team in England", yet "not be able to compete with United because of the difference in club earnings".

No Silverware = No claim to being the best.

Liverpool have more right to claim this as of now.

Awaiting the FA Cup final with great anticipation.

Sorry ManU supporters, but I agree with Wenger a bit. I think Arsenal at full strength with no injuries are a better side than ManU at full strength. After all, Arsenal knocked ManU out of the FA Cup with what I thought was United's strongest lineup possible... and Arsenal didn't start Henry!

The 'Injury Card'. Didn't ManU fans use that excuse last season?

Last season Sir Alex called Wenger and offered a toast to Arsenal's success. This year, the Arse whines and gives excuses. Arsenal had no more injuries late in the season than MUFC had early in the season.

Yes, Arsenal went farther in the FA Cup and MUFC went farther in the Champions League, but the best team in England is the one who is first in the table at the end of the season.

By the way, we also won the FA Youth Cup this year so look out! Here come some more home-grown Red Devils. 30 mil pounds couldn't buy:
    David Beckham
    Paul Scholes
    Nicky Butt
    Ryan Giggs
    Gary Neville
    Phil Neville
    Wes Brown
    John O'Shea

Yes, they did knock United out of the FA cup on a one off game. Does that make them "a better team"?

Liverpool beat United in the Worthington Cup final - I guess Liverpool must be a better team as well.

United lost 5 games this year. I imagine that ALL those teams must be better than United.

Win the Premiership - currently 8 points ahead? means nothing compared to a single day's result. right?

8 out of 11. meaningless, if United actually (gasp) looses a game.

Mallorca just beat Madrid 5-1 at the Bernabeau. wow. Madrid must just be utter crap.

    --------

I don't mean to be too sarcastic (well, maybe just a little) , i just find that a totally short-sighted statment you made.

Gilberto started well, but hasnt done very much the last 7 months nor have Pires, Ljunberg, Bergcamp, Kanu, Wiltord..... They have depended TOO heavily on Henry

Henry and Viera seem to be their team. They have alot of cleaning out to do. And being bitterly honest, I cannot see them placing in the top 3 next year with no money.

If they have to keep Cygan, Edu, Lauren, Keown, Ljunberg, Kanu, Traore, Pires in their starting lineup... they will finish BELOW Liverpool and New Castle next year - unless they can find the dosh to dole out, and how are their finances doing?

Arsenal have done exceptionally well with their resources. But they've had to go deep into debt to compete - lets not forget the collapse stalled stadium project, the £40m in losses last year. How much more debt can they support next year?

I have loved the recent rivalry, as it makes for a more interesting title race....

But I see New Castle -who WILL have money to spend as being the rivals for next year.

    I knew I'd ruffle a few feathers somewhere... ;)

I'm making the comparison with both clubs at FULL STRENGTH. Going into the Bolton match, Arsenal were already going to be without Viera and Campbell (thru suspension) for the rest of the season. Edu as well. Then during the Bolton match their players were going down left and right. Before Bolton equalized I already conceded to a friend that with those injuries there was no way Arsenal would be able to keep pace for the rest of the season.

I'd LOVE to see Bobby Robson gain a Premiership title before he calls it a day.

Heard that Becks has enrolled his son into a school in Spain. Hmmm...

Well, still fielding alot of subs (while I cant remember Arsenal having ANY injuries) United beat them 2-0 at Old Trafford.

Then, when Both teams were more or less full strength at Highbury (Viera mised 1/2 the game, O'Shea did as well ...) United had to settle for a tie
although dare I say that they had many more chances and the better of the play? a 2-2 wasnt a reclection of the game from by (possibly rose-colored) eyes.

I'm also thinking of the 7 United first squad members who underwent surgery at the beginning of the year 7. Until November/December United were fielding many subs & reserves, dropped a few games, but still kept in sight of the top.

How did Arsenal handle things in the 2nd half of the season? Ljungberg did have realproblems with his achilles, but Viera missing 1.5 games (before United clinched the title) shouldnt be a real issue for "the best team in england" should it?

As for New Castle, it will be very interesting to see where they go. My guess is that they will make 1 big £10m purchase for a forward, and various others to bolster their midfield.

They will also have to think about a Shearr-replacement. He has done exceptionally well this year... but he's no spring chicken. He wont last forever.

Bellemy has done well, but I would have him in a midfielder role instead - perhaps a better position to feed Shearer and a new strinker.

In marked contrast to Sir Alex Ferguson's gesture at Old Trafford last season where he invited the Frenchman for a celebratory glass of red wine following the Gunners' winnning of the title and congratulated the Arsenal dressing-room, Wenger has not sent a congratulatory message to Old Trafford, arguing that he had lauded United's achievement on television. (?!?)

However, he then sounded rather ungracious in defeat as he ran through the multitude of reasons why Arsenal had, in his view, been so unlucky to lose out in the title race.

    Wenger's conclusion:
Reaching the FA Cup Finals is a higher achievement than winning the league?

    Of course it is.

And just ask any Liverpool fan. They'll tell you that the Worthington Cup is a higher achievement as well :)

The Brit. papers and media have given Arsenal an easy time of it the past year. They focused on the great play of Henry and didnt hype the disciplinary record, ext.

which is fair enough - United have been given more than their fair share of positive spin stories....

But it seems that quite a few people are questioning the comments of Wenger lately,
which seem to be getting more and more ungracious as the week progresses.

At least at some point soon, he will have to accept his fate, and start speaking about the upcomming year... It can't be good his players to read his comments - they need to believe in their manager, not wonder why he's giving the bizarre quotes.

LOL. my favorite was the Arsenal fan who wrote "Beating the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus (who are in the semi-finals – Ed) isn't that impressive."

The editor just had to add that little addendum. must be a manc.

    recent Wenger quote
Do I remember several rants about his team having to play too many games? I must be mistaken, because Arsene clearly doesnt want them now. "I hate the breaks, they're not refreshing"

And apparently all those rants the past few days about offside goals, bad decisions, injuries, competeing with wealthier teams, ....

He apparently never said them. ok?
