Wow. Pretty impressive from our girls. I hope they get some friendlies against some other teams.
Well, the Jalisco team they had already beaten before, and these teams are (obviously) not at their level. That said, it is positive to come back with three wins and supposedly playing a little better.
I doubt there will be any other friendly prior to the big day on Jan 20, when we face Mexico.
On that thought, wouldn't it be good if they practiced regularly against local men's teams. You know, to get used to physically stronger opponents.
That's too bad, it'd be great to have a least 1 game the week before. Either way i'm happy that we did well.
Yeah, ideally you would want to have a warmup of some kind in early January, but nothing has been announced as far as I know. Mexico, for instance, is playing against a 2nd-tier US club in Jan. the week before (link). So they are obviously testing themselves against an opponent of the USWNT style, something our team hasn't done -- that's why I have the idea of them facing a men's team.
Maybe after the LNFFG final of tomorrow there might be some more news about preparation.
That'd be a great idea. See how they react to a faster stronger team.
Should we have a thread dedicated to Guatemala women's futbol? que dice la banda?
I would say we should.
Liga Nacional de Futbol Femenino
2011 Apertura - Final
Unifut 4-0 Deportivo Xela
(4th straight title for Unifut)
Watching Xela v Isidro Metapan. At HT the salvadorans winning 2-0 almost walking. I know it's practice, but come on, man...
Didn't watch the flemas but watched Xela embarrass themselves.
Estan probando jugadores.
No saquen conclusiones de torneos Xs, "Copa Mickey Mouse", etc. Big deal.
Just saw this article on Gary Muir, Scottish player who joined Antigua GFC in the Primera División de Ascenso this season and, for the most part, has nothing but good things to say about his experience so far: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sco...ck-is-less-than-5ft-tall-thats-Guatemala.html
The British Panza Verde
He is not, as the article states, the first European in Guatemalan football. Municipal has had Czechs and Spaniards on the team, and in 1935 we even had a German Goalkeeper, Günther Bruno Edelmann, who had also been the NT coach. I do believe Muir is the first British player ever to play professionally in Guatemala.
Popol u're right, these are just games so they can try new people and well with Cremas having a new coach now, he has to see what players he needs to get rid of and see what new players he can bring on the team. As for Xela, if i was Medford i would be worry, def. he needs to bring new players on.
As for the British Pansaverde, lo quieren nacionalizar al canche para k juegue con Guate
Hey, me and Popol are buying tix for the Rojos vs Cremas game on Jan 28 at the Home Depot Center in LA.
I'll buy them but you have to pay me back through paypal.
Let me know by Friday Jan 6, and I'll buy them then.
Count me in.. Although I think my uncle got me a ticket.. Let me find out for sure and let you know if I'll need a ticket.. Either way I'll meet up with you guys..
Could he be a Cali Villa referral? Looks like he went to University of Hartford
No, Antigua's manager is American.. He brought him to Antigua.
I just now read the Scottish Sun news article it was pretty interesting what he had to say about Guatemala.
So I did a bit of digging and found his FB. Looks like he is looking for a new team, and LOL at what he says in his comments in this photo.
LOL las barrabasadas tipicas de mi tierra es lo que mejor aprenden los extranjeros...
So I guess he left Antigua then?
LMAO que vulgar se hizo en Guate.
No more friendlies for the ladies. Calderón has called up 24 players for morning and afternoon sessions, presumably this and next week and that's it, off to Vancouver.
