Absolutely. As the announcer said at the end of the game "The USA will still want the 3 points in Kansas City, but this result tonight gives them some breathing room."

All we need now is a positive result tonight. por favor guatemala por favor

Same shit. We still have to win tonight and then get a point in Kansas City.

It seems like every game we've played has been a "must win" in this stage.

If the US didn't win tonight then the chances of Guate getting a point in KC would've been even SMALLER. I think it's been understood for a reaaaaaaaalll looooonnngg time that tonight is a must-win for Guatemala (see discussions when the groups were released). But to dismiss the importance of a USA win in Antigua opposed to a USA tie? come on chacha

The problem is that we like to speculate about the approach that the rivals would take given a certain circumstance... as if we were the ones that always play regular, always at our best.

Would it be more excusable to lose in the next game if the U.S. had to beat us? We'd still be losers.

I agree with you 100%, because you're right we don't always play at our best. But with tonight's result in the US Antigua game, we can hopefully afford to play mediocre (as has been the case for arguably this whole round, as much as we don't want to) and still leave ourselves a chance at a tie.

Regardless, we all understand that the real result has yet to be played out and that Guatemala needs max points from Jamaica. At home, sold out, and with our WC hopes on the line. If we can't pull it out there is no one else to blame.

Wow, can't remember the last time we strung together more than 2 or 3 passes like we did in that sequence off of the Jamaican corner, capped off with Ruiz making a solid run through the box but failing to make contact.

    Still scoreless 11 minutes in

That was amazing by Figueroa. I love the way we are playing today, not only because we are up, but it's been a good 15 minutes for us.

Pappa misses an olympic goal by inches as the ball sneaks in under the Jamaican goalie and just goes past the far post. Contreras' corners from the other side of the field have been garbage though

First sub of the game is for Jamaica, as Dane Richards makes his way in for J. Watson in the 43rd minute.

That was the absolute best of the first half. Luton Shelton was bound to put that one away.

The US did not deserve 3 points tonight. We played like complete garbage. Frankly I wouldn't be shocked it Guatemala beat us in Kansas City. Terrible performance.

Come on you little Guats. Beat Jamaica so we can just draw each other and both make it through to the next round.
