The G's just sent out a Press Release to announce a Press Confrence they'll be holding today to announce a new player acquisition. Could this be Hong Bo?
Just went and saw the e-mail. Thanks for thinking of me. Good to see some movement. I was already suffering Galaxy withdrawl.
Is there a FIFA transfer window? I know there is a UEFA one that now covers all of Europe - but all southern hemisphere leagues, MLS and a couple of Northern European teams play play at different times - I don't think this is relevant. Linda Fulham 0 Arsenal 1 - beaten by an own goal
I'm pretty sure the transfer window is for UEFA only and each individual FA does the enforcing as well. Even if it was a FIFA mandated window. The agreement could be announced today to take effect in Janurary during the transfer window. Either way, he's ours.
Wow, this'll be cool. I hope he fits in well into Sigi's system and readily contriubte. This also could mean cute Korean hotties coming to matches.
It's on the MLSnet.com main page, but here's the direct link. It's official: http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/la1104hong.html Congrats! -Tron
You lucky bastards! According to mlsnet.com (http://www.mlsnet.com/content/02/la1104hong.html), Hong Myung Bo was ranked right behind Oliver Kahn and Ronaldo in the 2002 World Cup, and he's a FIFA best XI player! I'd say that more than makes up for his age. Good luck with this guy. Even as a Metro fan, I look forward to seeing him play.
It is a FIFA mandated window (yanks abroad has tons of this stuff). But the MLS off season falls in the Winter transfer window, so it doesn't really matter. A couple of things pop out at me: "As one of the top 25 rated soccer teams in the world..." *startled* Really? Isn't that exagerating a bit? "The 33-year-old Hong, who began his professional career with the Pohang Steelers in 1992..." Yeah, we have solid defender. But once again, MLS brings in someone on the wrong side of the age curve.
Thisis awsome! Can we still get Earnie? I guess Cien is probably gone then or do we have cap space to fit Hong without cutting anyone? I smell a Dynasty brewing!
I still don't like this aqcuisition. He will be 34 at the start of the upcoming season. So, how many years of service should we expect out of him? 2-3? With Lalas also on the tail end of his career and there still is the possibility of Califf going to Europe at some point in the near future, where will that leave the Galaxy defense? In the hands of Waibel, Frye, Marshall, and EZ. That's not too bright a prospect now is it? One positive point that I would like to bring up is that Cory Gibbs's team, St. Pauli in the 2Bundesliga, is mired in the relegation zone. If they drop for the second year in a row, wouldn't St. Pauli have to give up on most of their pros or seriously resructure contracts to play in the Regionaliga? If so, there would be a possiblity of Cory Gibbs balking at the thought of playing 3rd division football and decide to join the defending MLS champs in time for the 2003 season. That does not sound too far fetched to me.
Great signing. The way that he played at the worldCup , he has 3-4 more very good years left in him. He also can play sweeper.
Yeah, let's not get crazy saying this 33 year old has nothing left. I recall a couple of defenders named Keown and Adams running aorund for a pretty good EPL club last season. They were nearing 40 apiece, were they not? Doesn't one of 'em even still play? Maybe I'm just nuts.
Congrats on the big signing. We all know from watching the World Cup that anyone on that Korean team still has a bunch left in the tank.
Bitter people. According to Fox Sports World Pay attention, this is old news. And he's still not the oldest on the squad....not even the second oldest. What's your point?
Thanks to Dave Denholm for working in the signing announcement into his Sportscenter Updates today on KSPN. Now we start addressing the issues: 3 man back line - who sits? 4 man back line - didn't work with our existing group? Is the new signee Bo legged? Is he Hong like a horse?
