I see a lot of experts and fans online predicting Portugal to win the Group.

I like it. Keep it up. Colombia does their best when they are not expected to win.

The gulf in quality between starters and subs in Colombia is the Mariana Trench.

Arias, Mina, Sanchez, Castaño, Quintero, Carrascal, unserious picks in 2026. James a big question mark.

Wouldn't be surprised if James is a dud next month

A lot of these guys raise their level of game once they put on the Yellow shirt.
James being the main one. But it remains to be seen if he can do it one last time.

Me neither. It could be a lot like 2018 in which he only plays one full match.

That said, I also said the same thing heading into Copa America and he ended up being MVP of that tournament and looked like the best player in South America.

    Hard to predict right now.

Should be a good group. No team is a push over. Portugal and Colombia SHOULD make it through as 1 and 2 but as we seen before other things can happen. Uzbekistan and DR Congo wont make it easy and any team that underestimates them will do so at their own risk.

Portugal had a great Nations League run last year to beat Spain in the final but can they continue it that run in this tournament? I dont know. With the amount of talent this team has there will be a lot of pressure on Martinez to put the right players/formation/tactics to maximize it. The current squad that has been selected definitely has some questionable call ups and players that were left off. We will just have to see.

Whoever gets 2nd place in this group will have to transition to R32 at Toronto, only to get crushed by either ENG or CRO.

Unfortunate for teams in this group: just one survivor in R16.

So, what you're saying is that the England v Croatia match in the first week of the WC will have the feel of a knockout match?

    Tasty.

Portugal: This team has ENORMOUS TALENT and is one of the Top 5 teams in the world. Everyone talks about Ronaldo’s last World Cup, and he’s there but way past his prime. However there’s way more talent than that including: Cancelo, Dias, Mendes, Dalot, Vitinha, Neves, Fernandes, B. Silva, Felix, Leao, G. Ramos, Conceicao, etc. A lot of young players with pace and skill. The team has honestly underperformed historically because the coaching wasn’t the best, but since Roberto Martinez took over in 2023, the team has found a lot more rythemn, chemistry, consistency, and stability. This is the best Portugal team in history, and they’re serious World Cup contenders.

DR Congo: This team historically has always been an interesting African team. This is only their second World Cup, but the team in African tournaments has always been tough to beat and surprised at times. Definitely one of the weaker teams, but they play with passion, and do have some good players like: Sadiki, Wissa, Mbemba, and Bissaka.

Uzbekistan: First World Cup ever for this team. One of the weakest teams in the tournament, but they do have one good player Khusanov, and are coached by Cannavaro. Nothing to rave about, but the team is respected in Asia and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Colombia: This team has a lot of passion and fighting spirit and play extremely attacking football. Coach Lorenzo has been with the team either as head coach or assistant for so many years, and knows the team very well. They have some talent like James Rodriguez, Diaz, Lucumi, Rios, Munos, and a few others. Has some defensive weaknesses, but a fairly good team.

First of all, this group is going to have everything. Expect A LOT of GOALS, FOULS, CARDS, and EMOTION. The games will be chaotic, competitive, and emotional.

All that to say, results wise, I think this is the most straightforward group in the World Cup. Portugal clearly the best and will win the group, Colombia second, DR Congo third, and Uzbekistan last. The biggest question is will DR Congo advance as third place? Given Portugal and Colombia’s attack, and the scheduling; I lean No, as the goal difference might be in the negatives for DR Congo.

    Final Predictions:
    1. Portugal
    2. Colombia
    3. DR Congo
    4. Uzbekistan

Yeah, group K is a good one to be in. I don't think either the group winner or 2nd-place finisher will have too difficult of an opponent in the R32. Though, if you finish 2nd, Spain might be there in the R16. But winning this group means Switzerland is probably the toughest team you might have to face until the QFs.

If there's a concern being in this group its that you have fewer days between your first group match and first KO match compared to most other teams.

I see Portugal still has a friendly to play tonight in Portugal. Has to be one of the latest scheduled overseas friendlies before a WC ever(?)

Probably counting on them having to wait until their first match.

Good point. Its a 39-day tournament and Portugal look good enough to go all the way to Day 39. Don't need to be camping together and seperated from families for longer than necessary is the thinking here, it seems.

I'm really torn. There seems to be a strong consensus that this Portugal is a top 4 or 5 side, another peak similar to Euro 2000, WC '06, Euro '16 etc.....my issue is that Colombia has been impressive too, 3 of the past 4 Copa America's they've made runs to the Semifinals ('16, '21 and '24, in '19 they fell in the quarters on penalties to a Chilean side that finished 4th). At Copa America '24 they made a run to the final, and were a little unlucky to lose in Extra Time. They play Colombia in Miami, that will be a MASSIVE game in absolutely miserable humid and hot conditions (or one would expect it to be) for me, I give the advantage in that kind of weather scenario to Colombia. They'll have huge support in the stadium and have played in plenty of heat and humidity soaked matches in adverse conditions all around South America, Portugal could really struggle with/the conditions....I could be wrong? Maybe the time of the day makes it not too bad for them, and I hope so because it would otherwise be a spectacular game to watch. One of the biggest Group Stage games on my list to watch.

I am curious if DR Congo can do enough damage to grab a third place ticket to the knockouts (hell, maybe a 2nd place ticket). They're not bad at all, a pretty strong team, and it would certainly hearten the country after the Ebola nightmare currently happening, and the fact that 52 years ago their players at WC '74 appeared under threat of death (which the Colombians know all too well about, from 20 years afterwards in USA '94). I've got high hopes for DR Congo, and hope they can get 3 off Uzbekistan and find a way to get 1 more point from the other two matches.
