It doesn't really matter if you finish first or second in group F anyway.

All of Sweden's concerned twitterverse convinced they're doing it on purpose.

90+2' (of ?) 2-2, 90+3' (of +5') 0-0 Canada are still pressing. Japan are pinging sideways in the backfield.

Japan subs in (3 of 3) #17 Yuki Ogimi (nee Nagasato) for #13 Karina Maruyama.

I've liked what Scott has brought so far tonight. Which may be the kiss of death for her...

For the slow person (me) in the class, why would that benefit them?

FT 2-2, 90+5' (of +5') 0-0 RSA free kick from 30m center. Japan heads out, RSA chip back in, high. Fukumoto lets it bounce on the 6-top right post :whistling: , catches the rebound.

FT 2-2, FT 0-0. South Africa scalp 1 point off the defending world champions!

Japan now will (most likely) play GB in the Quarterfinals instead of France.
Of course if somehow GB manage to win against Brazil... :sneaky:

    Group F:
    5+3 (+6-3) Sweden
    5+1 (+2-1) Japan
    4+2 (+6-4) Canada
    1-6 (+1-7) South Africa

Canada clinches because 4 points beats E3 (as New Zealand and Cameroon have 0 pts each), while G.France (3+3) and North Korea (3-3) cannot both draw and out-GD Canada's +2, and Colombia is also at 0 pts.

No wheels for GB + Bruna and Brasil's newfound stinginess on defense = Win for Brasil.

i'm not sure why Herdman didn't push Canada after the equalizer, the draw only cemented what was already almost assured even without a point. finishing 2nd on the other hand would've made reaching the semis a lot more realistic. not that much to celebrate about facing the 1 seeds.

This...its so frustrating to see Sinclair not used in her proper position, in the playmaking role sweden constantly had 2/3 on her so she couldnt get 1 v 1 a lot...

I still think Canada is better served having her up top....

Canada gets either Usa/Brazil or Gb right?

Should have gone for the win......

lol. It was so obvious Japan were trying to draw on purpose. They were going for a goal and then as soon as Canada tied Sweden, they began to pass the the ball around their own half for the final 10 minutes. They even made a late sub to eat up more time. Oh yeh and they were fielding a team of almost entirely second-string players.
Obviously one advantage is to avoid France or USA. A former Japan player also kept stressing today that they want to avoid traveling to Glasgow and so should lose on purpose.

And people on here said Bruno didn't tank the Germany game in the WC to avoid the USA. That little hip ball for Sweden killed his dreams. This practice happens in every sports. It's just the women's soccer faithful on here, who think women's soccer is above this practice.

That seems to be the consensus today, I guess. There's no better time for a conspiracy theory than the Olympics.

SA's Modise had one of the goals of the tournament so far. Nice to see them end their Olympics on a positive note.

Just to be clear, I don't think any Swedes were saying that a Japan-South Africa draw would benefit Sweden... and I don't think anyone meant it sourly either, it was just a common (almost dis-interested) observation made during the last half hour or so of the games.

Pretty rare to see a player spell things out so clearly, although we all believe such strategic group planning happens from time-to-time.

GBR vs. Canada. i'm very happy with this matchup considering the alternatives. Brazil/Japan, USA/NZL, Sweden/France. wow, intriguing QF matchups.
