I certainly don't understand not taking Greenwood and then playing Daly ahead of Stokes then. having a right footed striker for her club at left-back is very ... English

"8 of the GB starting 11 play for Man City..."

    And Beckie started for Canada.

I've seen Daly play right-back for England once or twice, and I thought she was fairly effective. I like her a bit more than Greenwood, whom I've always thought rather overrated. Daly has more speed and athleticism, I believe, and is a pretty spirited, fiery competitor, though I agree that having a right-footer on the left isn't ideal.

I worry about Daly defensively. She gets her body into some really poor positions whilst defending. Chile didn’t offer much but still found success in the one v ones against her.

I prefer Hemp as the left back. Much better attacker with an end product and solid defensively.

7' Buchannan shot saved by Endler rebounds back to Canadian player and then again into goal... but the last rebound on Buchannan was from her arm - so goal is disallowed.

18' VAR check on challenge on Sinclair inside Chile pk box - refs awards Penalty Kick for Canada. Beckie misses PK - ball hits the post outside and goes out of play.

26' Sinclair shot from outside the box misses by inches Endler's left post.

39' CHI 0-1 CAN Endler save of the cross lands at Beckie feets, she quickly shoots and scores.

HT CHI 0-1 CAN Canada in total control of the game, I'd expect one or two goals more from them in 2nd half.

I'm gonna stop following this match.

    Two more goals it is.

Beckie scored on a brilliant though ball that Endler had no chance on 1v 1.

but the next goal was Chile’s from a converted pk after a takedown in the box.

Four changes. A bit of a surprise. I still have nightmares of Stokes’ last international game. Hoping she does a lot better today.

Why is nobody stepping up on Tanaka from GB's defense?

Japan looks bit more creative of two sides while British - although also dangerous - seem to be mindful of saving the fuel a bit.

GB looking better from an attacking sense since the change. Walsh/Ingle is too negative as a combination.

Error by the Japanese keeper helps GB take the lead. Ellen White with a good front post run and header to create a bit of havoc. It worked.

Error by Japan's DMF Nakajima who interfered with her own goalie.

GB won. Williamson probably my MOTM. Used the ball well and offered composure.

Not a great game. Japan have been an odd team for a while. Talented but barely create a good chance in whole games when I watch them. Iwabuchi not starting is a real head scratcher.

I thought the keeper rushed out and bashed into her. Tough for the keeper to come out and beat White from that position IMO.

She had a bandage and probably wasn't 100% ok.

On the other hand, I'd take an half-strength Iwabuchi over basically any other Japanese player, so benching her for the most difficult game of the group remains an head-scratcher anyway.

Japan most likely will win with Chile and advance anyway. Loos like Takakura (who really looked calm in both JPN games) have them saving strength for 2nd round when the tourney really starts.

JPN opponents in QF will most likely be either NED (if they finish runner-up) or SWE/USA (if they finish 3rd) - if JPN wants medal they need to beat one of those teams anyway.

Yeah, maybe saving her for the final group game.

It comes to a point when you want to see something good from this Japan team in a competitive tournament game. They were somewhat excused for their lacklustre displays in the WWC because they were prepping for the Olympics. It feels to me like they are playing in the same manner.

They don’t move the ball quick enough or press off the ball with intent. They just look too predictable to me. I guess they have time to get it right but it’s been a while since I’ve seen them look threatening.

First half of GB-Japan game was boring. Japan is hard to break down, good defensively, but, yea, they're struggling to create quality chances.

Japan could still qualify with a draw. 2 points and -1 goal difference. I can’t see Zambia or China winning against Brazil or the Netherlands. The bad goal difference for both teams makes a draw for both Zambia or China completely worthless.
