    Group E, have at it....

But don't forget to read the Mod Warning.

And don't forget, there will be results discussed, so if you want to watch the match later, but maintain the suspense, please don't read this thread until later.

Van Es to start for the Dutch. That surprises me a bit, after her injury, but is certainly encouraging.

These are professional sports announcers. You would think they would have practiced saying MEE-de-ma. This constant Me-DEE- ma is driving me nuts.

These 2 teams had a chance to score but missed. Looks like a tied game

Abby Erceg lost her mark in stoppage time and Holland grabs three points.

I had Erceg as Player of the Match until the goal. Ali Riley did not do well with Beerensteyn on the first header, which drew Erceg's attention. Beerensteyn made the play over Riley and Erceg was toast. Too bad for defenders - one unlucky miss-play and they go from player of the match to nothing.

Couldn't agree more! No excuse for it. Of course, Lalas botched her name, too, a couple of days ago. Why the networks think they need to trot Lalas out for every World Cup, I don't know.

Lalas said and will continue to say things that agitate people, which is his job.

And pronouncing Groenen with an English "Groan" sound. I know it's foreign, but the H sound isn't that hard.

I have been wondering how to properly pronounce Groenen. How should it sound?

Anyone can correct me if I get it wrong, but it's like "threw" without the "t" and then "nen". She also doesn't pronounce Jackie like you'd think, and I think it's somewhere between like "Shackie" or "Shockie". I don't blame anyone going with the standard Jackie pronunciation there though. Most people probably do.

I don't think botching names is part of his job.

  16. I'll disect it for you in parts:
G sounds like the first part when Spanish say Juan. More or less a scraping sound.
    r sounds like r
oe sounds like oo in moon
    nen sounds like nun
Put together you get Groonun with the emphasis on the first part Groonun

Yeah, but he’s Alexi Lalas and he’s going to do whatever he want to do. Don’t be surprised that executives at Fox Sports approve that.

I’m in France for the tournament and my only regret that I don’t get to watch Fox’s coverage across the Eiffel Tower. I was at their outdoor broadcast studio in Vancouver with other fans in 2015 and we had fun.

Thanks for this. I might have sometimes said it like that, but I didn't know that.

There is no doubt in my mind that of all the goal celebrations in this WC so far, Miedema’s somersault is the best one.

Lalas was also an announcer for the recent U20 WC. He spent the entire tournament mispronouncing the US coach's name. Fox has never valued accuracy.
