Best thing about this situation is that this is going to generate such buzz for the knockout round in Santa Clara. USA fans can gobble up all the tickets now while opposing fans will have to wait until the Group stage is over.
Guaranteeing another great home field advantage which has been very crucial for our success.

They honestly looked like a team that had to qualify the hard way in Europe. Limited speed and athleticism, very static movement on offense and no clear goal scorer to fix the mess. They weren’t bad, but they haven’t been any good either. And yeah Europe’s worst World Cup teams don’t look better then the rest of the world anymore.

I still think Paraguay is really weak. Turkey just made them look way better than they actually are. Seriously they couldn’t even break down a 10 men Paraguay is ridiculous.

Paraguay had so many turn overs and lost a lot of balls, and gave the ball away so many times that turkey failed to capitalize on. They’re not the weakest team in the World Cup but I’d definitely call them one of the weaker teams for sure, in fact besides Brazil and Argentina, the rest of the CONMEBOL teams do appear to be overrated. Especially after seeing these results:

    Uruguay 1-1 Saudi Arabia
    Ivory Coast 1-0 Ecuador

Whatever Turkey had last year, they don't have it now. They have been way too slow and predictable. They're out and it's done.

On to the last game that matters. It will depend highly on the rest of the group scores later this week. More likely than not four points will be enough to advance and that will lead to a defensive and pragmatic game by both Australia and Paraguay.

Or turkey and Paraguay is just that bad? Paraguay wasn’t any better than their first game.

Playing down a man for an hour has a way of making you look less inspiring in the attack.

I guess. Its also only 2 games and URU dominated that match while CIV is really good.

Overall, there's still a pretty clear path for all six South American countries to advance.

I agree CIV is a good team but still third best team in Africa and Ecuador came second in CONMEBOL qualification. Granted that was when Brazil was underperforming prior to Ancelotti, but still. Ecuador looking horrible against Curacao so far, but game not over yet.

Colombia and Uruguay probably will advance to knockouts but will get knocked out in Round of 32.

there has been a lot of dross, and it has come at the expense of a proper group stage for the best 32 teams

Aside from creating the first goal? What match were you watching?

Plenty of good matches if you don't want to watch the "dross"

Personally even I like the dross matches. But I guess I'm the kind of fan FIFA likes.

Jordan v Algeria was fun. As was Panama v Croatia.

Panama is probably the team that has deserved a point (at least) from both games but did not get any.

Paraguay need to win against Australia to avoid Germany in the R32 , other game nothing to gain since Turkey guaranteed last place and the US first place.
