Haiti with a valiant effort but just came up short.
Outplayed Scotland for most of the match but just could not equalize.

Scotland hangs on for three points.

 

First WC win for Scotland since 1990.

I've never been less confident of a team advancing in this 'best 3rd-place teams advance' format after winning their first match.

 

They will take a pounding in the next two games and leave early as usual.

 

Scotland has 3 points. They will just sit back and bunker against Morocco and hope for a draw.

Morocco struggles A LOT against low blocks. Just something to consider. The longer Morocco goes without scoring, they more nervous they will get.

 

I really expected more from Scotland after they topped their UEFA qualification group. But I think a draw against Morocco is a far more likely outcome than some may believe.

 

Scotland literally has no motivation to come forward. Hope for a draw, or even just keep the loss as low as possible to advance on 3 points. The pressure will be all on Morocco. It will be a completely different type of match than what we saw today.

 

A Scotland vs Morocco draw could be very possible, but Scotland needs to get better at their technical execution; because honestly, it was pretty shambolic against Haiti.

 

Scotland had the right ideas and were very intense, but the technical execution of this team was terrible today.

 

Looking at the times for next Friday's games, it would have made more sense for each countries fans if FIFA swapped the starting times for the USA v Australia game with the Scotland vs Morocco game. Most of the first round game times were about as good as FIFA could have scheduled (given the need to spread out starting times, there are always some games where times will be middle of the night for countries); but while the times for those 2 games isn't terrible, it feels like an easy switch that would preferable in home countries.

 

I can see us get a draw against both Scotland and Haiti because of that and not make it to the best 3rds

 

You should be able to get it done but I am a little worried.

Stupid that your coach did not take En Neysri. He at least offers something different not in your squad. An aerial threat.

There was a time where Morocco was crossing into the box with with Saibari as the target man. He was never going to get anything against Marquinos and Gabriel. Both Haiti and Scotland are big and physical at the back.

 

I mentioned this in another thread but the Seattle Mariners baseball team has a night game that same day which would have made traffic and parking a disaster.
So there was really no easy fix to this other than try to make the US World Cup match kickoff as early as possible.

 

Another thing is that Ouhabi just took over with this Morocco team and there are quite a few new players who haven't been with the team long, yet they looked far more organized, cohesive, and just better than Brazil with their "world class coach" who has had FAR LONGER with his players.

At first I thought Morocco sacking Regragui was a big mistake, but turns out I was wrong.

Seems to be a very good decision.

 

Saibari scored a beautiful goal but he's not a 9 and we could see he doesn't have the necessary habits in some situations. Igamane would have been great to have.

And yeah Ennesyri would have been very helpful on the long balls we had from Bounou when pressed by Brazil after Issa's back passes. But he was excluded mainly because something happened with Diaz after that panenka in the AFCON final. Same reason Akhomach was excluded according to the rumors.

 

Regragui wasn't sacked, he resigned because of the medias. He was armwestling with them since the defeat against South Africa in the AFCON 2023. First question they asked him after the 2025 final was "are you finally going to resign now ?".

 

That's a shame.

 

As you should be. Credit to them foe hanging in and getting the win. But the goal was fortuitous and they were second best for huge chunks.

And the next two matches are gonna be tough. If they can limit the damage ....
