With VAR, a kick to the head of an Italian player might've gotten a Korean player red-carded.

With VAR, Maradona's hand-goal would have been disallowed.

    With VAR, in 1934....

    You get my point.

As for laughing/2002... well, I started watching soccer WAY before that year.

Guadalajara is also high altitude so I am not surprised that they were gassed. Monterrey has the lowest elevation of the three.

    Czechia 1 South Africa 1

Glad it was a draw. None of these dreadful teams deserve to go the knockouts.

Is it just me or was that a terrible penalty call? I never see that get called anymore (i.e. ball hits arm/hand that is close to the body of the defender).

Czechia got screwed but agree about not wanting to watch them beyond the minimum 3 matches anyway.

I thought so too as did the commentator, but on a replay he said it actually hit his other arm which was more outstretched and blocking the shot. I didnt see it, bit haven't rewound to see if what he was saying was true.

Yeah first replay it looked like it hit his right arm which was tucked into the body, second replay shows it actually hit his left arm which was outstretched and blocking the shot.

Ah ok. I was watching that on my small screen (phone) so that's why I wasn't sure.

Denmark and Ireland must be fuming right now, but Denmark has only themselves to blame after giving up not 1 but 3 chances to qualify against Belarus, Scotland and Czequia.

Also I originally said that Bosnia was the weakest European team in this WC, I now retract myself of those words because now I think it is Czequia (although Bosnia has yet to play against Switzerland and may get blasted there)

You won't see Bosnia get blasted. One doesn't get through UEFA qualifying without being tested and passing that test. Even though the format could be improved to make it less easy for a good team to fail at qualifying.

    It's embarrassing for these teams.
However, wen you waste big opportunities to get points to qualify, you dont deserve to go to a FIFA World Cup. No excuses, no crybabies. Period.

I think South Africa and Czechia don't deserve to go to the Round of 32. Time to go home.

Actually I think the weakest UEFA team in the World Cup is a toss up between Czech Republic and Scotland. Bosnia is third weakest team.

Double egg for the Danes since they couldn't get past either of those two dreadful teams.

No way that's a blasting. The Swiss had 0.03xG at halftime and it was still under 0.4 at the water break.
Heck it was still under 1.0 entering stoppage time.

Biggest home match in Guadalajara in 40 years.
It should be a special atmosphere in what is considered “the most Mexican city” in the country.
