Played the entire match in a 0-1 loss. Had four shots all within the penalty area that were blocked, including one in the 90+1 min.

 

Yow with some good work on the ball and off the ball in the highlights.

Griffin Yow has been offered a contract extension by Westerlo for an additional season, through June 2027, sources say.

Lost 3-1. Yow entered in the 59'. Only 15 touches over the 31 min of play.

 

Westerlo plays today at home vs Mechelen. There has been some financial news out of the club. They have announced that they were 23 million in debt this season. The club has said that the raise in debt has two reasons.
1. The new training complex was eventually more expensive that planned.
2. Outgoing sales in the summer of 14 million were just past the end of the financial year and thus did not "count" for the year.

I mention this, because I would not be surprised to see despite the reported new contract offer for Yow, if the right offer comes in for him, he might be on the move. Yow is one of the more dynamic players on the team.

 

Did not start, but came in the 65'. Match ended 1-1.

 

Yow subs on in the 65th minute and Westerlo find an equalizer in the 75th in a 1-1 draw with Mechelen. Yow had a potential game-winner saved in the 93rd minute.

 

Yow starts and scores - and with the assist from Reynolds! Doing their Weah-McKennie impression. Losing 2-1, though.

Good match overall for him. Too bad the team could not pull it out.

 

What do you think happens to Yow/Reynolds in the next couple of transfer windows?

 

Just a guess here. I think that Reynolds is gone. Either this winter or summer. Westerlo seems to want to shed his salary as despite a good deal of money invested in salaries, they still seem to be unable to make it to European competition. Yow I would be stays about 18 months more. Becomes a every match starter, becomes more consistent, and a very important player for the club. If he could become somewhere near a 10 goal and 10 assist player, he would be worth a lot of money. I think that he can develop into that. He has matches like todays where is is very very good, then ones where he still kind of vanishes.

 

Thanks for your thoughts. I’m not sure Reynolds has progressed as hoped for with Westerlo? Not sure if anyone is willing to pay more or much more than what Westerlo paid for him (if it was the reported 3.5 million Euros).

With Yow, it seems like he has been a bit underwhelming this season. He was connected with moves last summer and I was sad he didn’t push on then. It became unclear to me if clubs would still pursue him after a down start to the 24/25 season.

 

I agree on both parts. If the Praha rumor is correct, and Westerlo could get 2.5 out of it, I think they will take it. We are saying the same thing about Yow, but in different words. His season has not been what it could have been. But he has shown flashes of really good play, then moments of dullness. That is why I think a move is further away for him. His reported contract extension is a good thing, but one that is a gamble by Westerlo that he will become more consistent near the top of his abilities and be a good player for them, and also one to get money from a sale.

 

Yow had some good work and his goal was well taken. Watch the 2nd Westerlo goal. Very nice.

 

Subbed off in the 89' in a 1-2 loss. Westerlo were the much stronger team according to the eye test.

Right now for Westerlo when Yow is healthy he plays. He is one of their more dynamic players and is in a very good spot for his development. I would hate to see a move, and I feel the same for anyone who has a potential move, to get buried on a bench.

 

The key to see how serious these moves actually are (both his and Bryan Reynolds') will be do they play tomorrow.
