Uno mas... Beyond what the club already communicated about Gregg Broughton (“He is a passionate leader with a proven track record of developing talent and building competitive teams. As a key member of our leadership team, Gregg will help establish a high-performance culture to drive sustained success across all areas of the sporting department.”)... GGG added GB brings 'significant negotiation and contract structuring experience'... Based off of what has been discussed about GB's career, I didn't expect to hear that. Hope he is better at than Heitz!
Thanks for additional info. Still having problems understanding how Stephens, Broughton and (also) Pelzer will interact with each other and how they will mesh with GGG.
Oh yea, there was a partial unclear comment about MHS and Mueller… Something to the effect of ‘decent depth/fill-in players’… Got the impression they will stay or be sold/traded, not pushed out.
Thanks overlap for your report. I am pleased GB seemed to at least be up front about a number of things if not everything which is already an improvement. Now just hoping they get all those signings to actually happen and they work/mesh well as a team sooner then later.
Alright, I left out an interesting one....at least it was to me... Someone asked GGG about how much the MLS has changed since his days in Cbus and how different did he thought International play was from club play. Regarding MLS maturing, he said something to the effect of 'The tactics and the depth of quality is clearly improved, and still improving. It's an exciting time for the league, as it is now in discussion with how it ranks relative to many of the long established leagues...and it simply wasn't for a long time.' Regarding Intl vs club, he said something to the effect of 'I'm really excited to get back to club ball, to be able to develop players and the team! In Intl play the guys would play a game for their club on Sunday, fly on Monday to where ever we would be playing that week, still be recovering on Tuesday, we'd get 1 day of practice on Wednesday and compete on Thursday...there was zero development possible, we just needed everyone to adjust from their club tactics to what we were going to do in our game. Here with the Fire, I'm now going to be able to develop players' skills and mentality...as well as a culture...I can't wait to get to the point we can have a squad that has honed the tactics and plays for each other!'
He is obviously heading in the right direction- he is proposing the same things we talk about. Chuckle, chuckle.
Agreed! Only critique I could come up with is that he didn't address how he's going to be effective running the club AND the first team. IMO, it's an unreasonably large scope of responsibility...but if he can assemble a 'functional' front office...we shall see. He has grand plans and I applaud that
My best guess is that the three current hires for the “inner circle”- Pelzer, Stephens and Broughton- are expected to be major contributors toward solving that problem.
Missing info is the first team coaches and if all need to be told what to do, get permission, or are empowered. Takes chemistry and trust when ‘the boss’ is also ‘in the trenches’. certainly can be done…I’ve done it in a different environment…but it’s all about ‘who’s on the bus’
Despite the obvious potential for greatness, there are a number of obstacles stacked against this occuring, including egos. Even if accomplished, it is a relationship that is unlikely to last very long,IMO.
Just a “ normal” amount of ego in them would create an obstacle needed to be overcome if they were to enter into the described scenario.
It appears that we could have done worst that Gregg Berhalter as head coach. FC Dallas name Eric Quill head coach https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/fc-dallas-name-eric-quill-head-coach On year as a USL coach One year as an MLS assistant coach. Another one year stint as a USL coach. Now, coach of one of the founding MLS squads. Austin FC name Nico Estévez head coach https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/austin-fc-name-nico-estevez-head-coach The guy F_C_ Dallas dumped over the summer for sucking so bad was named head coach of Austin. Amazingly low ambition for the F_C_s in Texasistan.
I sometimes get confused as to whether I am on the Optimism Thread, but it has crossed my, and others, mind that GGG was rather successful with a filthy yellow team that had a lousy, tight purse strings owner. Let's see what he can do with some real backing.
