Very impressed by the speediness of this thread creation and the depth of it in only 10 hours (3 pages!). Well done gents and ladies.
lol I don’t think anyone did that. Seriously, there are some dumb mother********ers on this board, but I don’t recall anyone saying that the reason we sucked on the field was SeatGeek and that moving to SF would improve on field performance. If you’re going to make shit up out of thin air, maybe go for believable? Most people with brains understand why it made sense to gtfo out of Bridgeview and what the move would and would not help. Nobody thought it was the only thing required to fix all of our on field problems, or all of our off field problems.
This should be an interesting off season, today the least. I wonder why they made this decision now and not after "decision day".
he's owned the teams for over 40 years one championship between the two in the last 20 -- he's not trying to win championships any more say what you will about the Fire futility, but worst season ever in America's longest running professional sport is a real achievement
I challenge anyone to find a quote where someone said moving to Soldier Field would make the team better it's always been about moving to a more accessible location for a larger fanbase
27th Birthday? Hoping it indicates they will be moving rapidly to solve problems and have the entire new squad in camp the first day of training.
I think it was on "Music's Biggest Mysteries" on ACS that they did a show in the 27 year "curse." Pretty interesting and sad.
Every 28 years is Saturn Returns to the position when you were born and astrologers claim it forces major changes in one's life, but what do they know.
Reinsdorf had to put up with Jordan, about whom he complained about having to pay him so much money. That's about the only other outlier in his ownership regimes.
That is fantastic! Congratulations to him and to you. Of course, it's so awful at home he has to flee all the way to Korea?!?
And if you go back to the posts around those times, there were some dumb motherfvkcers suggesting just that. There were also the naive motherfvkcers who further believed that there was a snowballs chance in hell of a SSS being built within the city. Supposedly, Lincoln Yards was gonna give up valuable land for a (snicker) soccer team. Because, "reasons." And yet, here you are.
I wonder if the better reporting forced the Fire's hand a little bit? Seemed like guys like Paul Tenorio and Tom Bogert and the likes have the information out maybe a bit before the Fire were maybe ready to make it official? After all we know how "transparent" the Fire front office has been historically over the years. We knew about Kellyn Acosta at least a week before it was official.
I bet you can’t find one post or media quote suggesting that anyone thought the move to Soldier Field alone would make the team better
"After a thorough and detailed search that included a number of exceptional candidates, it became clear that Gregg Berhalter was the right choice to lead our sporting operations," Joe Mansueto, Fire owner and chairman, said in a news release. “His previous success in MLS, where he thrived in a dual role, and his experience leading the U.S. Men’s National Team over the last six years make him an ideal fit for our vision for the Club moving forward.” From Frank Klopas' hiring announcement on December 6, 2023: “We conducted a thorough process with numerous well-qualified candidates, and we believe that Frank Klopas is the right person to lead the team,” Chicago sporting director Georg Heitz said in a release. “Frank is hard-working, has strong relationships with our players and staff, and knows what it takes to be successful in this league." https://www.chicagofirefc.com/news/chicago-fire-fc-names-frank-klopas-head-coach Come on, guys, at least try to show some enthusiasm and change the language a bit. Well, they went from unnamed "well-qualified" to "a number of" unnamed "exceptional candidates"...so progress?
"After a thorough and detailed search that included a number of exceptional candidates, it became clear that Gregg Berhalter..." Who, exactly, were these "exceptional candidates" and what "number" were actually interviewed or, even, considered?!? So, if one is doing a "thorough and detailed search," it would make sense to at least wait until after the season is over to see who might become available. Unless they thought Berhalter was about to snapped up by Atlanta or something, the timing of this move makes absolutely no sense.
