U-M names Ryan women's soccer coach Ryan Selected to Lead Michigan Women's Soccer Program Rademacher Steps Down After 14 Years as Head Coach "As a player, Rademacher (née Belkin) was a member of the Soccer America all-century team at UMass and played on the 1991 U.S. Women's World Championship team" as a defender.
He can join Rich Rodriguez there, two coaches who choke completely when all the chips are down, those two should be very happy together.
Unlucky, but I guess it was inevitable that someone had to get him. Its a young program, out of the spotlight (headlights?). At best, Ryan has had tremendous exposure to the real deal. If he can take this opportunity to reflect and grow in a lower profile environment, he might make a real contribution and actually grow into a good coach. If he makes the mistake of allowing his ego to cast too large a shadow, then no one will come play for him and this will just be a further step down on a slippery slope. Time will tell. Best wishes to all the girls in the U-Mich program. I hope they don't get burnt by Ryan's fallling star.
He should be pretty familiar with the Big 10. He coached Wisconsin women for a number of years and was successful in the eighties. I agree he coached like a bone head at the WWC but I had him as a coach at an Olympic Festival and thought he did a good job with our team. He was an upstanding guy and I think he'll help Michigan get back on track. He was DEFINITELY not the right fit for the WNT, though.
