Robert Green still can't make the England squad even after proving that he thoroughly deserves the number 1 spot but it is good to see that Upson got the nod. England provisional squad for the friendly against Switzerland on February 6: Carson (Aston Villa), James (Portsmouth), Kirkland (Wigan); Bridge (Chelsea), Brown (Manchester United), A Cole (Chelsea), C Davies (Aston Villa), Ferdinand (Manchester United) G Johnson (Portsmouth), King (Tottenham), Lescott (Everton), Richards (Manchester City), Shorey (Reading), Upson (West Ham), Woodgate (Tottenham); Barry (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), Carrick (Manchester United), J Cole (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Manchester United), Jenas (Tottenham), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Young (Aston Villa); Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Heskey (Wigan), Owen (Newcastle), Rooney (Manchester United).
What has the poor sod got o do to get in the team?. Well done Upson, tho he's good, I dont think he's thaty good. There should be two Ferdinands (Ferdindistas?), not just the one.
Oh and can you be a bit more circumspect with your thread Titles? This one nearly gave me a heart attack on transfer deadline day.
Capello 's a loser! Well, the first moves by Capello demonstrate that he doesn't know what he's doing! To leave out Robert Green for Carson and Kirkland is simply ludicrous; and the same goes for his stupidity in not giving Beckham his opportunity for his 100th cap in a friendly, totally unimportant game! This makes no sense, and a number of the players in this squad are highly questionable let alone not as good as Beckham. I think he's showing a lack of imagination. I would have thought that Stuart Pearce could have directed him a bit more, since he really knows all the players. I'm glad for Upson, but not convinced he's at this level yet. And I doubt he'll play anyway. All in all, I'm disappointed.
I seriously would not have considered Upson a chance to make the squad but I would have thought that Noble would have a chance given his recent displays. The omission of Green is as big a clanger as I have ever seen in the selection of an England squad but at least Robinson isn't there!
Re: Capello 's a loser! I don't entirely disagree with you lm but would this not just recreate the situation where the current manager continues from where the others left off by picking players from the same bunch of favourites? The way I see it he needs to start from a blank canvass and clear out some dead wood. I suspect that Capello is hoping to watch the current players first to see for himself how good they are and whether they deserve a place, with a few exceptions of course like Upson. If the GK's don't impress and he still keeps Green out then I think we will have some cause for complaint. Although let's not forget that England's loss is our gain, right up until the point where Green's leaves us to increase his England opportunities.
