Greece have no played (8?) matches over the past two months in an attempt to improve their squad for the upcoming Olympics.

On Jan 8th and 10th they will host Ireland (in Chalkida, Greece).

They recently beat Cyprus 4-0 and 7-0. I am sure Ireland will give Greece most of a test then Cyprus did...

They seem to have added a few new players. The roster for the games on Oct 25+27 only had two North American based players. It appears someone with the Greek F.A. has been doing a little homework... :)

Don't forget about the one Greek-Canadian...

Anybody know anything about this Greek-Canadian Tzanetakou? Is she a college player?

I think I have found her.

She goes by the name of Stacey Janetos and she plays midfield for the W-League Toronto Inferno.

She posted a message on an Italian web site, identifying herself as a member of the Greek national team.

Did the Greek FA just make a mistake with her last name? Why would she have a different name with the Greek national team?

maybe she's going by a different name. like how karvlesson (sp??) goes by another last name on the icelandic team. (that is more "proper" in iclenadic tradition)

I believe the "Tz" digraph is the English transliteration of the letters used in Greek to represent the sound of a "J". Using a J makes it easier for Canadians to pronounce it.

But I can't explain the difference between the endings "-os" and "-akou".

Anyone know how Greece did against Israel today?

Interesting to see that Greece beat Israel with ease in the first match, but then they lost the second....

good for her! i've always like stacey's game with the inferno, and i'm glad she's getting involved at a higher level no matter which country she's representing!
