Who's the best in KC Wizard history? I can't imagine any1 saying anybody besides Preki or Tony Meola, because those 2 are the only ones who've been with this team for a long time and have played super-star caliber. I say Preki.
Why do yu say Meola? Well, I say that Preki is the greatest player in MLS history. He's the league's all-time leading scorer, an 8-time all-star (7 with KC), 2-time MVP, 2-time scoring champ, and was a star in every season with the wizards except for now in 2004 when he hasn't played.
Maybe it would have been a good idea to give a few more choices??? Mo Johnston Chris Klein Digital Come to mind as well.
Molnar. For one year anyway -- even though Meola got MVP. Just kidding. Preki hands down. Anyone notice that without him our road attendance has dropped about 2 or 3 k?
I think as a whole this is basically no contest, I think Preki has been our best player, although players like Meola, Johnston, Klein all come to mind as possible best players, I don't think there is really anyone in the Wizards history that compares to Preki One thing that might be interesting, is get a starting 11 of the all time best Wizards, maybe another idea for a thread.
Thanks, Andy. Irregardless of the gushy lovefest being heaped on Preki... I continue to have a bitterness toward him for poisening the well. Scoring and point totals is NOT the sole measure of greatness. Heart is. And, it would be difficult to build a case for Preki in that catagory. MoJo... hands down!!! No Mo? No Cup!!!! [period]
Tommy Reasoner, Eric Eichmann and Scott Uderitz are all WAY better than Andrew Gregor. But that's just my opinion.
Had preki retired like normal human beings are supposed to do abotu 1 or 2 years ago, i might have to say Mo. But his longetivity, and, more importantly, his EFFECTIVENESS even after playing for as long as he has puts him just over the edge.
To be fair, our road attendance was aided last year by the 4th of July game in Colorado. 2003 pretty much solidified Preki as #1. Had he retired in 2000 or even 2002, we'd have a pretty lively debate.
Steve Bunbury! Haha... seriously, when was the last time any of you even thought of that name? Great of all time? 1. Preki 2. Meola Distant 3rd is Mo Far down the list at 4th is Klein. Best Wizard over 1 season is Molnar. He probably had the highest impact season of any player ever in the MLS. I guess LD is probably a strong contender for that award as well as Preki with the Fusion of 2001, but without Molnar, we don't win the cup, if we even go.
Haha... I knew something seemed weird, I actually paused and thought for a few seconds, but then thought "It's probably just because I hadn't thought of that name for a long time that it sounds weird." God, from what I can remember, that guy couldn't do anything but play with his back to the goal, which is really a pretty bad thing if you are the striker.
I'm torn. Why am I torn? Preki is a god. 'nuff said about that. Tony has not only been great on the field, but has adopted KC as a second hometown and has done an awful lot to raise awareness of the Wizards in KC. That goes a long way in my book. Plus he's a US soccer legend. Mo was the reason for "The Moment." Mo's bloody face after the game on October 6, 2000 is the face of a champion. Throughout his entire career with the Wizards, Mo was all about winning and giving his all to do so. All three are shoe-ins for a Wizards ring of honor / hall of fame. As to which is the best Wizard of all-time? I just want to say it is nice to have problems like not being able to decide amongst three well deserving candidates!
KInd of goof in the last post. that was my first year of attending the wizzards games..MO made me a believer and has been a season ticket holder ever since..........and enjoying every minute of it
