    ...according to VH1:

    10. MOTÖRHEAD - 'Ace Of Spades' (1980)
    9. OZZY OSBOURNE - 'Crazy Train' (1980)
    8. SLAYER - 'Raining Blood' (1986)
    7. IRON MAIDEN - 'The Number Of The Beast' (1982)
    6. KISS - 'Detroit Rock City' (1976)
    5. JUDAS PRIEST - 'You've Got Another Thing Coming' (1982)
    4. AC/DC - 'Back In Black' (1980)
    3. METALLICA - 'Master Of Puppets' (1986)
    2. GUNS N' ROSES - 'Welcome To The Jungle' (1987)
    1. BLACK SABBATH - 'Iron Man' (1971)

Of course "metal" and "VH1" don't really sound like a reasonable couple, but that's not a shabby top 10.

    Small story here.

    Discuss.

Well...If I had to pick a Judas Priest number, it would have been, "Electric Eye." I suppose they are looking at songs that are popular or could bee seen as "hits" on some level, so the Iron Madien song isn't a surprise, but "The Trooper" is my favorite track of their's.

"Freewheel Burning" for my Judas Priest pick!!!

I think "Aces High' could have given "Number of the Beast" a run for its money.

I agree that the list is rubbish, but "Raining Blood" should be on everyone's.

Yes. And Raining Blood still deserves to be on the list, if not for influence alone. And yes, I know Slayer would have been nothing withou Venom, blah blah blah blah. Reign In Blood is one of the greatest albums ever made, metal or otherwise, and Raining Blood should be on any list of greatest metal, IMO.

I still think "One" is Metallica's best song.

That's probably the best list the American mainstream media came up with in the last 15 years or so. I'd kick out AC/DC, GnR and Kiss as Hard Rock though, but as long as they don't call Korn Metal I don't really mind.

Still, this list looks a bit like someone said "Well, just take the most popular song from the most popular album of a popular band and we've a winner!" (except for the Priest one maybe).

As usual my favorite songs from the bands on the list never had a chance to made it onto the list anyway. When finally someone other than myself puts Between the Hammer and the Anvil, When Death Calls, Invaders or South of Heaven on a Metal top 10 list I'll be able to die in peace.

But in the end a metal top ten without Dio, Accept and German thrash will always suck.

But: early Slayer > early Testament and Overkill.

Edit: I've changed my mind, replace South of Heaven with Black Magic! :D

Edit2: And the Motörhead song should be Killed by Death of course, best song title ever.

Best Slayer song and worthy of the list, yes. And I don't know if early Slayer would be better, I mean I love their early stuff, but I cannot overlook Testament's musicianship on "The Legacy" and "New Order", those are just two absolute classics, and I cannot bring myself to listen to more than two Slayer albums.

    *shakes head* :D

Testament kick some serious ass, but Hell Awaits (I know that Black Magic is on SNM ;)) is one of the most influential and best Thrash albums ever (especially for the more underground stuff).

And have I mentioned that the cover ********ING ROCKS?

Testament has a kickass Metal font, so does Priest. In fact, Slayer is one of the weakest ones, even Metallica's is marginally better. :D
