Sorry if this has been discussed before, but who is the greatest-ever Republic of Ireland footballer? Is it Roy Keane? Could some of you also nominate your all-time Republic of Ireland best XI?
Wouldn't be Keane in mine and I'm sure alot of other peoples opinions, though he was great. For me, it's a tie between Paul McGrath and Liam Brady, both were amazing players, very hard to seperate them, my all time Ireland 11 would be... Whelan (Liam) Aldridge/Charlie Hurley Heighway Keane Brady Giles Beglin McGrath Lawrenson Irwin Bonner Giles was better in the middle but I wanted Keane and Brady as my mid field pair.
I can only go by players which I have actually seen play with my own eyes. So This would be from the past 20 or so years. The greatest in order are 1-Roy Keane 2-Paul McGrath 3-Liam Brady 4-Denis Irwin 5-Damian Duff A Team: Given Carr-Lawrenson-McGrath-Irwin Houghton-Keane-Brady-Duff Keane-Stapleton With Aldridge, Bonner, Hughton, Sheedy, Whelan and Moran on the bench. Jonah
I never really saw Brady play (except for a match here or there), because I wasn't born in his peak, but he's seen by a lot as the best. Over a 3 or 4 year spell I'd go with Roy Keane from the late 90's-2002, he was unreal. Bonner Irwin-Lawrenson-McGrath-??? Houghton-Keane-Brady-Duff Keane-Stapleton Subs: Moran (or Staunton), Whelan, Townsend, Aldridge & Quinn
This is tough. Many candidates, Liam Brady, Paul Butler, Keano, Paul McGrath, Packie Bonner, Sebastian Knowlton. The safe money is on Brady I'd say, but Keano's no pushover. Look out for that last fella though!
